I would appreciate any referrals/recommendations for an OBGYN or midwife who works with access insurance. Wondering if anyone has had a baby delivered by Doctor Smith (offices on wilke street in Arlington heights) or the midwives that are sponsored by him?

A bunch of my friends go to the Womancare in Palatine and Arlington Heights and have nothing but good things to say about them. My husband's health insurance (blue advantage hmo) does not get accepted there (which I was really bummed about) so I went hunting for an ob/gyn. I made an appointment with Dr. Smith's office over there off of Wilke and I was really disappointed. I was in the doc's office for almost three hours! I was so upset by the time I finally met the doctor (which was probably the last ten minutes I was there) that I really just didn't care what he had to say. Whatever it was, it didn't impress me. I ended up going with Women's Health First group. www.womenfirst.net I still wasn't too impressed, I didn't get that warm/personal feeling that I wanted to get from my doc but it was better than Dr. Smith's office. At least with this one, I get in and out. I guess I'm a little impatient. Good luck to you.

Check out Homefirst on Golf Road in Rolling Meadows (homefirst.com). They facilitate home and hospital births, and they also have a pediatric practice that educates you about vaccines. I'm not sure if they take Access, but they do take a lot of different insurance carriers.

A.,
I've seen Dr. Smith, he's ok. I switched practices when some of the other Drs. broke off a long time ago. I went with Northwest Womens Consultants. Dr. DeDanato, Dr. Kooperman, Dr. Geitmann, wonderful practice, they also have several females in the group, and I do believe they have a mid-wife. I delivered four babies with them and loved them! They are on Central Rd. and have an OB office connected to Northwest Comm. Hospital in their new proffesional offices on the hospital campus.
Good Luck~

Dr. Julie Dohr and Rebecca Keith are in barrington, but not too far from palatine. I have been going there for 3+ years and Dr. Dohr delivered my fourth child. I wish I would ahve had her for all 4 of them...her and Dr. Keith are amazing!

The only downside is the owner of the practice, Dr. Novas...let's just say that she doesnt' have the BEST bedside manner in the world. There is one other assoc. there, Dr. Coll who is very nice too but I only saw her once. Chances are with four of them, you'll have one of the 3 good ones when you deliver, but still, there is always that risk. Seriously though, Dr. Dohr was pregnant herself and waited 23 hrs for me to deliver, never pushed a csection, joked and laughed with me and is just the nicest, most down to earth doctor. Love her! Dr. Keith took excellent care of me too during all my NST's and BP tests ( i had pre-eclamsia the last 3 weeks of pregnancy).

Good luck...hope this helps. Not sure if they take Access ins. but you can call them ###-###-####

Dr. Smith is my doctor and I will be having my baby delivered by one of his midwifes (or him if I need a C-section) in June. I work at Northwest Comm. Hospital and his practice came highly recommended by many of the nurses I work with who go to him and have had babies delivered by him. So we will see. So far they are very nice and I have never had a problem with waiting. I get in and out of there with very little waiting whatsoever. I would imagine the other woman may have had an appointment on a day when he got called away unexpectedly to deliver a baby. It happens sometimes unfortunately. It doesn't matter who you go with. Whomever you end up choosing, good luck!

I go to Dr. Smith's office ONLY because unfortunately I have the public aid insurance and they are the only one to take it. I have never met with the dr. himself, only one of the midwives. I have only been there twice. The first time wasn't too bad, a little more of a wait time than I would have liked, but the second time was ridiculous. I waited for an hour and she didn't even have the answers to some of my questions. I would definitely NOT recommend this place.

My doctor is part of the WomanCare group. They have offices in Palatine (www.womancarepc.com). Check out their website or give them a call. I don't believe they have midwives on staff there and I am not sure about Access Insurance. Also, you can try Northwest Community Hospital (www.nch.org), for doctors in your area.

Good luck!
