Hi, C.! Sorry to take so long on this but mamasource wasn't working the first time I tried.
I *love* my midwife, Susan Akins. I went to her because I was so tired of feeling like I was on an assembly line at regular OB/gyns. She and another midwife work with a team of OB/gyns at Women's Health Alliance at Baylor Dallas, so while you see the midwives, you also have access to the docs and in fact are required to see one at least once during your pregnancy. If the midwives have any questions, they confer w/ the docs.
Susan and Tanya specialize in healthy baby/healthy mom pregnancies. It was my first and I knew I was going to have a TON of questions, so I wanted someone who would take time with me, be on call for me and generally be a calm port in the storm. Which is exactly what Susan was. She has delivered more than 1,200 babies and is warm yet completely unflappable.
I had a kidney stone while pg; no problem, they got me through that and I passed it the same day. Then when it came time for delivery, Susan was there checking on me and overseeing the pushing. I don't remember so clearly, but my husband loves to tell the story of Susan sitting cross-legged on the end of the delivery bed, directing our efforts and helping the baby through with baby oil. Sorry for the TMI, but I ended up with only two small stitches, and I can't imagine a doc taking that kind of time to look after me.
Anyway. I can't recommend Susan highly enough! The number to Women's Health Alliance is ###-###-####, I think.
I hope this helps! Congratulations on your pregnancy! :-)
