Looking for an Anniversary Trip Destination Close to Home

My husband and I looking for a place to go to for a weekend trip to celebrate our anniversary. We used to take our family vacation over our anniversary, but now that our kids are in school, that's no longer an option. It has to be someplace close to home, since we will only be visiting for one or two nights, tops. Last year, we went to Lake Geneva, WI, and we had a wonderful time (our first vacation with no kids for almost 7 years!). We were thinking Galena, maybe? Any destination and/or hotel recommendations would be great!

What can I do next?

My mother in law lives near Galena, and it's GORGEOUS this time of year (the leaves start changing about 2 weeks before they do here).

I know this maybe a liitle further than you want to go but, Door County at this time of year is beautiful! My husband and I honeymooned there and loved it. There is lots to do and great places to stay. I would take the ferry over to Washington Island for sure if you go. I hope this helps! S.

We just went through the same thing. We ended up going to a spa resort and didn't leave. We got a couple's massage, swam, slept and ate. What more could you ask for. We stayed at Eagle Ridge Resort in... I forget...near 355 and Thorndale though.
Enjoy your weekend

We have always enjoyed Galena and stayed at Eagle Ridge Resort in the condominiums or rented a house. It's a pretty drive if you avoid the tollway (90) and take Rt 20 all the way. There are nice little towns and antique stores all along the route. If you choose not to stop, the 'back roads' don't add but maybe 15 minutes to your drive time. I'm sure you'll enjoy the weekend no matter where you end up :o)
