I have no idea if the doctors listed are close to you. I would look into getting Dr. sears Vaccine Book as well.
Hi, I've been all over the internet looking for a good alternative vaccine doctor for my 1 year old daughter in the oralnd park area where we live. We are always being bullyed into shots at her current pediatrics office and she does not seem to do well with eating or sleeping for months afterwards. So i'm hoping to delay them this time. can anyone reccomend a doctor for us?
Thanh you
Thank you for all of your responses. I did read the Dr. Sears vaccine book before I gave birth because this was a subject that I wanted to learn about before I just started to give my daughter all the shots they recommend. Just to be informed and make a better decision. The pediatrician we see now is in elmhurst so on top of them being far away they also will not tolerate a delayed schedule for vaccines and i would have to find a new pediatrician. Alot of the doctors that I found on the dr. sears list had some negative reviews so thats why I thought I would ask around to see what other moms are doing. I will look into the suggestions and on top of that call around to the doctors who are covered under our ins. Hopefully we can find someone we love.

Babies go through teething and many growth spurt and changes that upset their eating and sleeping with or without vaccines.

I would interview offices that are covered by your insurance, if you have a choice. My child's doctor would not call herself an alternative doctor, but rather she has been communicative and open minded. She reviewed what I presented her (a little Sears, a little of my own opinion and research) and came up with a plan that put DD on a delayed schedule without jeopardizing her health, the health of others, or her admission to school. Her willingness to consider my ideas and discuss why she did/didn't recommend it really mattered to me. You want an office you can talk to. 18 years is a loooong time.
Please do bear in mind that many things, like teething, can screw up a kid's sleep, too. So even on a delayed schedule, you may still have reactions here and there (my DD spiked a fever with one of hers, and was so lethargic we went right back to the ped).
Very smart to delay her vaccinations! That is what I did. You don't have to switch pediatricians. My pediatrician gave me a "vaccination decline form" to sign, and that was it. Or, did your pediatrician tell you that they will kick you out of their practice if you you don't vaccinate your child when they say to? Obviously, that is another story, and you must switch pediatricians. If that is not the case (which I'm sure it isn't), then ask to sign a "decline vaccination form," and they should be fine with that.
Another possibility is to just wait to find a doctor all-together, so you don't have to go through the why's of your decision. Unpopular as my next statement will be to some, well-baby visits are 99% about vaccinations. Especially by 1 year old, you've got things down, you know whether she's eating, growing, pooping, babbling, pointing, walking, etc. If you have a child who is prone to illness, that might be another story. But there are always Minute Clinics or such for the one-off sore throat, or flu bug, etc.
I chose to delay vaxing my 3rd, 4th, and 5th, after we saw drastic changes in my 3rd following a vaccination with the MMRV combo. He has ultimately been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. While I believe he was showing signs before that vaccine, after the vaccine, we saw a marked increase in symptoms, and an increase in the severity of other symptoms. I have no doubt that that vaccine was a factor in the timing of his symptoms, and even if there's a 99% chance I'm wrong, I will NOT take that 1% chance with any more kids.
We told our new pediatrician that we wouldn't be vaxing the new baby until after age 1, and then, on a delayed and spread out schedule. We will be skipping the HiB and Prevnar (which aren't required by our state for school), and the rest will be few and far between. I have taken the baby to 2 well visits, because there is not much reason to take him other than vaccines, even my pediatrician agreed with that.
My advice would be to come up with a schedule you feel comfortable with, with a timeline, and present it to the new MD, not as a request, but as a definite.
1. you need a dr that takes your insurance.
2 you tell the dr what shots you want and when you want them.. I do not understand bullying.. my dr does not do this. I would not associate eating and sleeping issues for months with the shots.. infants get sick.. colds.. teeth and grow.. all of these things change their eating and sleeping patterns..
They are not all that close to you, but you can try calling C&C Pediatrics in Westchester. (Wolf Rd and 31st St. near LaGrange) I have been taking my three children there since….birth. There are two doctors there, and no other staff. So if I call the office, I always get a doctor on the phone. They know me and my children and don't have to look at their charts to remind themselves of who we are. I love this practice.
I did not delay vaccinations for my kids, but I believe the pediatricians at C&C are flexible about it. ###-###-####. Good luck to you! I know the medical community has debunked the "myth" of the correlation between autism and vaccinations, but my older son completely withdrew from me right after one of his vaccinations when he was a year old. It lasted about three weeks, and I felt like I had to hug and nurture him back to normal. It was so weird! Good luck!
Find out which doctors take your insurance and then call their offices and ask point blank if they are okay with patient that follow a delayed vax or selective vax schedule. There are different reasons many doctors revue to see unvaxed kids so you really just have to ask around.
People from all over Chicagoland go to Dr Natalie in Yorkville. It would be about 40 minutes from you, but I know people who drive even further just to see her.
the shots just happen to correspond with wonder weeks. Google wonder week. It really helps with understanding the crazy sleep stuff.
