Looking for a Twin Bed, Dresser, and Nightstand for My Son

We are switching my son to a big boy bed. I have two questions.
First, we are debating between a full and a twin bed. My daughter has a full and I had originally thought about getting a full for my son but my husband says that we should just get him a twin (possibly with a trundle although I'm not sure why we would need it). I'm debating about it now...what do you guys think - am I totally over analyzing this whole bed size thing? (I tend to do that :) )
Second, I've been checking on Craigslist but haven't found anything that I really like. Regardless of the size we get, I want to get a bed with a headboard and rails that holds a boxspring and mattress. My husband doesn't want to do the bunkie board thing but I'm open. I'd like to get it used only because I can pay cash and get a good deal (we are Dave Ramsey fans and like to get a deal!) Does anyone know of a good place to look that either has great prices on new furniture or another place to look for used furniture in the metroplex?
Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

D.,

I would get the twin bed with the trundle. That will last him longer into his childhood and early teen years. It seems when a boy has another boy spend the night, the boys are much more reluctant to share a bed. On the other hand, little girls will share with one another. Also if your son has problems wetting the bed, it is much easier to change a twin sized bed then a full. Good luck.

Hi D.,

If I cannot find it on craigslist I go to the Vineyard's Antique mall at 4701 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville.

They have so many people there that bring all kinds of new, used and unique furniture for a big or a very, very small price.....

I would at least do the trundle bed, but really, I am kind of a bunk bed girl too! It just depends on if you think you will be allowing for sleepovers, and if so, how you will handle that. Of course, they can always sleep on the floor, but that is up to you. If you got a trundle that could pop up, maybe it could be used if you ever needed extra space for guests, it would make a king sized bed. But of course, you have to have room for it in his bedroom! If you want him to use this bed for the rest of his time in your home, I would get a full, but personally, I would move from a twin to a full when he is a teenager. Tough decisions, sorry I may have added more confusion, just a few things to consider in your decision making! ~A.~

I've analyzed this question to death, too. My son is going to be in a toddler bed for years (he's only 23 months, lol) but I've shopped and thought about it for a long time. What the previous post said is 100% correct: girls think nothing of sharing at a sleepover, so they can have a bigger bed, but boys simply won't do it. Not sure why, but I've noticed that with my brothers and cousins as well. For that reason, I have decided on a nice quality bunkbed. You can block or remove the ladder until he's old enough to use it (some, like at that Lonestar Baby store in Hurst, even have stairs that are actually storage cubes instead of a ladder). The trundle is cool, too...but you'd have to make sure you leave enough room for it to be pulled out during a sleep over. I just like the idea of bunk beds because I remember loving them when I was little, and it's a super space saver. Craigslist is kinda hit and miss, but I've seen some fantastic beds a couple times, at obnoxiously good deals. Other than that, wouldn't know...but I wouldn't buy a bed at a place like the Roomstore if you're hoping it'll last awhile. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and the Roomstore stuff tends to start sagging or wobbling quickly.
