H.,
I just finished doing this! My son will be going to Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church Pre-school, on Rte 209 in Middle Smithfield. I don't know where in Monroe you are looking for, but that's the program I liked the best. It is a primarily socially oriented program for the three year olds, and that is what I wanted.
We are doing Mommy & Me at Little Blessings Nursery School right now, run by Reeders United Methodist Church, on Rte 715 in Reeders, across from the Jackson Township Fire Hall. I love the program, and Mrs. Elmire, who teaches it is absolutely wonderful She also teaches the three year olds.
I've heard great things about Creative Learning Center on Rte 191 in Stroudsburg, as well. They have a program for 2 year olds, and I've the teacher for that is exceptional with the kids. Not one single person I know has had a bad thing to say about that school.
All of those programs are primarily focused on social skills development through the 3 year old program, and work a lot with craft projects, art, and creativity based themes. It's more about getting used to being in a school setting, working with adults other than Mom and Dad, and separating confiedently. All of the skills that will have to be well in hand before "learning" stuff the next year, which is more pre-kindergarten oriented. If you are looking for a more academic approach, then take a look at Academic Learning Center. The reviews I've heard of that one have been mixed, depending upon what the parent was looking for and the gender of their child. There's a lot of sitting at a desk and paying attention from what I've heard, and not surprising, those p[arents who have girls have been happier with the school than those who have boys.
There are a ton of other schools out there, but these are the ones I really looked into. Oh yeah, since you mention Tannersville, no one I know who sent a kid to Tumblebees preschool program was happy with it, and I've heard only great things about The Growing Concern, but that's a 5 day, half-day Montessouri, and like $4,000 a year!! Ouch.
