Looking for a Pediatric Dentist - Denver,CO

Much to my horror, my 3 1/2 year-old son has a tiny cavity. Our family dentist recommended he goes to a pediatric dentist to have it filled, due to his gag reflex, so he could have nitrous.

We live in Lakewood, CO but don't mind driving to visit a good dentist. Also, has anyone had any good (or bad) experiences with nitrous for someone so young? It makes me nervous.

Has anyone been to Dr. College at Kids to College?

Thank you!

We LOVE Dr. Flander at Perfect Teeth at Wadsworth and Yale. She is very sweet and kind and explains things so that my daughter (5) understands. My daughter had her first fillings at 4 and she was wonderful. They have stuffed animals she can hold and glasses that she loves. The entire staff is wonderfull. The number is ###-###-####. We might be moving soon and just the other day I thought I would be so sad to leave Dr. Flander. Good luck!

I love my kids' dentist, however it's way on the other side of town. You had asked about experiences with nitrous... This past visit was very hard for my daughter, only because the year prior, she had fallen asleep with the nitrous and woke up, not really knowing where she was, or who was with her, or what was going on. This last time, she was very nervous because she remembered those feelings from the time before. I would just suggest that you are there, so that if your child falls asleep and wakes up, the first thing they see and feel is you. I was behind her, but she didn't realize it because she couldn't see me and was disoriented. My son did fine with nitrous - even laughed a lot!

We took our son to Dr. Bryan Savage at West Metro Dentistry for Children...he was awesome! It's on Ward Rd, north of I-70 in Arvada. I cannot say enough good things about him. www.westmetrokidsdental.com

My sister's kids have seen both him and Dr. Sexton at www.kids2thdoc.com in Lakewood.

I don't know if Dr. Bryan just works out of both offices or exactly how the two are connected, but I know my sister's kids really liked both docs in Lakewood.

Best of luck!

Hi, C.W.,

I'm actually taking my 3 1/2 yr. old daughter to see Dr. Kurt Tsumura down at Midtown Dental tomorrow afternoon. I live in Lakewood, as well. This will be the first time I've taken her for a cleaning. I'll post again tomorrow afternoon to let you know how things go.

I've not had any experience with nitrous oxide, but I'm with you...it would make me nervous. I'll ask about it tomorrow if you like.

We absolutely love Drs. Barb and Nick Moyer. They are at the corner of Kipling and Bowles (or maybe Belleview). I went there as a teen and now my kids go there. Their number is ###-###-####. I can't say enough how great they have been. They're even helping me now that my jaw pain has returned, just because I used to be their patient. Dr. Nick has seen our 2 1/2 yo a few times and even he does great. Our 5 yo thinks Dr. Nick is cool and love going. (I mean gets excited!) GL! Sorry to hear about the cavity. :(

The Children's Hospital also has a Pediatric Dental Department. According to their website they have some kind of Cavity Program. You might want to look into it. I found it by searching "dentist" under their search engine.

We have an awesome pediatric dentist in the Littleton area (Belleview and Kipling). His name is Ira "Nick" Moyer and the phone number is ###-###-####. I have referred several friends to him and they all love him too. He is very caring and gentle. His wife is an orthodontist and they share office space. She is wonderful too.

We go to Dr. Steve Anundsen on Wads & Morrison. He and his wife are wonderful - for the whole family. My kids LOVE them and actually don't mind going to the dentist at all.

Regarding nitrous, they used it on my daughter just last week - she had to have 2 teeth pulled and has a fear of shots. It was a good experience.

Good luck-
C.

Young Dentistry is a great practice for kids and I've been taking my daughter there for a couple of years. They might be a bit far for you - one office in Lafayette and the other in Westminster. But there is also a fabulous pediatric dentist in Southeast Denver (I-25 & Hampden) - his name is Dr. Scott Smith. He actually operated on our 4 year old at Children's and he is wonderful. I highly recommend him. Good luck!
