Hi!

Recently our bank (MidAmerica- who we loved) was bought out by National City (who we don't like). We are currently looking for a new bank but don't want to switch blind. I'm wondering what bank you recommend and why. what do you like? What don't you like?

thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I've been banking at West Suburban Bank since I was a teenager. They are very friendly and have a community bank feel to them. They also have great rates on CD's, money markets, etc... If you have one close to you, I would give them a try.

I have been banking at west suburban bank for years. There statements are easy to read the personal bankers are great. The tellers remember your name and always say hi. They have locations everywhere too.

We bank with Harris. They are a lot better that super bank Citi or Chase. However if you do internet banking, I wouldn't recommend them. IT IS ANNOYING SET UP! My husband is a computer engineer and it took him some time to get use to it. I can't make heads or tails of it.

I hate to be negative, but I would recommend avoiding TCF Bank. I have banked with them for years, and I am now searching for a new bank. They have so many "hidden" fees they are killing me. (on-line bill pay costs and arm and a leg.)

Additionally, you can't talk to a person unless you go into the bank. And when you go into the bank, they tell you to go home and call the 800 number. Not very customer friendly.

I am seriously looking into Chase, but I am not making the change just yet.

My husband and I recently switched to Bank of America. We were with West Suburban. There was nothing wrong with them, but i wanted some of the benefits of a larger bank. My husband and I's finances are pretty tight. I do put a set amount aside every paycheck into savings, but I wanted to do more. Bank of America does a "Save the Change" program. Every time you purcase something on your card, it rounds off the change and puts it into a savings account. (they match 100% for the first three months) It may not seem like a lot, but it really does add up. On average I save an extra $20/month without even trying. Plus they have a lot of other great features that let you track your credit report, bill pay, etc. If you do not care about all these little extras, West Suburban was a very nice bank.
