I am looking for a Farm that is in the VA/MD area that I can take my kids to that has fun activites for kids, farm animals, produce, etc... I am finding that most Farms don't open until May and I'm looking for one that is open end of March or April. If anyone knows of any will you please let me know. Thank you.

C.- married for 11 years, mother of one 8 year old and care for 5 girls during the day out of my home.

What can I do next?

Try looking at the hard Bargain Farm. It's in Calvert County. The website is www.hardbargainfarm.com. My son's 5th grade class went in January and they had a good time.

Hi, C.. You might want to check out Frying Pan Park Farm (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/fpp/) - another MamaSource mother recommended it to me, and though we haven't made it out there yet, it looks great. They have activities almost every weekend, and this is their birthing season, so there's a lot going on. Have fun!

HI,
Frying Pan Park in Herndon, Va is a working 20th century farm. It has hayrides and educational programs on it's animals which include: cows, pigs, chickens, rabbits, peacocks, the pardoned presidental turkey around Thanksgiving--they get so fat so fast they don't live long, etc. It's a great park for all ages. There is also an indoor show ring for horse and llama shows.
Here are directions and a contact number:

Directions: Frying Pan Park may reached by taking Beltway Exit 49 which is Route 66 west to the Route 50 west exit. Follow Route 50 west to a right on the Fairfax County Parkway until it meets West Ox Road. Turn left on West Ox Road and follow to the park entrance on the right.

Try Kidwell Farm in Herndon. They are part of Frying Pan Park and usually have all kinds of activities around the new baby animals in the spring.

Frying Pan Park in Fairfax County, Oak Hill/Herndon, used to be a real farm and is now a county run park. It doesn't sound like it's exactly what you're looking for, but they have animals, a sign out front that regularly shows you what new babies have been born, they have horse shows there, hayrides when it's a little warmer, a little general store, playground, etc. etc. Hope that helps!
