Looking for a Great OBGYN in Peoria, AZ

After working at both Thunderbird and Arrowhead I recommend Thunderbird hands down. I have seen and heard of many fatal mistakes at Arrowhead and I will not let my children, famliy or friends be treated at that hospital. As far as doctors go...Judy Tom is excellent and So is Mary Helen Brown. Dr. MeKernan is really good too. But his practice prefers induce patients at 39 weeks so that 1) they don't get called in the middle of the night to deliver and 2) they don't have to share the delivery fee because someone else was on call. He wasn't always like that, but people change.

I was refered by 2 seperate friends to both Dr Wilkey (female) and Dr McKernan (male). Both were booked. Dr Wilkey was not taking new patients until December, and that was me calling in August. Dr McKernan was only taking new patients if they were already pregnant. I have been trying to have a baby for over a year now, and was told Dr McKernan was wonderful. I was a little hesitant because I feel more comfortable with females, but a co-worker convinced me to see him. I 1st saw his nurse practioner & I have an appt to see him next week. I hear they are both wonderful doctors.

My OB was Dr. Christopher Nahm at Glendale OB/GYN. He is wonderful and always puts you at ease. I had a high-risk pregnancy and he made all the difference in the world. I know you're looking for a woman, but wanted to share just in case. :-)

Also, from everything I've ever heard, Arrowhead has a poor reputation/track record. I've been told horror stories by a few nurses as well as former patients of Arrowhead. I switched OB's just to deliver at Thunderbird and had a great experience.

I know you were looking for a female ob/gyn, but Dr Paul McKernan is the BEST!! He is at 18699 N 67th Ave., Ste 320
right next to Arrowhead hospital and the phone no is:###-###-####. I was recommended to him by a friend whose 17 year old son was delivered by him! I, too, preferred a female, but I have to say that I think I felt more comfortable with him than with a woman. He is experienced, kind, funny, comforting, and patient. The office is very busy and you will have to wait an hour-ish for your appt, but if you make your appts for first thing in the am, you will be fine. They will also fit you in should you need a same day appt. He delivers at Arrowhead and Thunderbird. I delivered at T-bird and the labor/delivery nurses were great, I got one really good post partum nurse, the rest left a little to be desired. Another thing, if you plan on breastfeeding, make sure you are educated about it, because there is only one lactation consultant who is only available during the day. The nurses are not really that well trained in it, in my opinion. They were trying to convince me that my daughter needed formula, when she didn't. Good luck in your search!

Hello, as I work in the medical field as a medical assistant. Nina Wiley and her group are really good. Either hospital is better but Thunderbird has a nicu for pediatrics. However I delivered at Arrowhead and got excellent treatment.
