Looking for a Good School District

Our family will soon be moving to the south-west area of Indianapolis. I'm hoping someone can give me the inside scoop on schools in the area of Avon/Camby/Mooresville. We don't want to be in IPS and I've heard even though Greenwood gets good marks, peer pressure is a real problem there. We hope to buy a house and not have to move for awhile. School district is at the top of our list of concerns. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hello, Avon is a wonderful place to live and the schools are awesome I have one at Avon Intermediate West and two at Cedar Elementary. The teachers are very nice and really seem to know what they are doing and why they are there. I have never had a problem with my kids friends or they haven't complained of any enemies. We came from Wayne Township, it was getting bad there when we left, and I am very protective over my children, no problems what so ever here in Avon.

Out of the three areas you mentioned I would recommend Avon or Mooresville.Avon has grown so much partially due to the fact it is well known for having such a good school system.Depends on if you want to be in a big system or not.Avon average 500-600 per graduating class.Unfortunately peer pressure, is bad no matter where you go, so I don't think you should base your choice of schools by that.

I live in Greenwood I pay half the taxes of everyone else. I have sent 5 children and 2 greand children through the Greenwood school system and they all loved it. I had a jock a cheerleader a band (rifle) a adhd student and a straight c student they were all different and all did very well, and made lots of friends. Actually the school system is why I moved here years ago

I'm in the Decatur Township area, which is just north of Mooresville and still in Marion County. I like the school system here. We have lived here for 6 years. My daughters haven't been in any other school system. The system has recently rebuilt or refurbished quite a few of the schools, and built a new 5th and 6th grade school. The high school is currently under construction. The kindergarten just went full day this year.

The 5th and 6th grade school works in classroom clusters and the high school has started a more personalized education program. There are problems at all school systems because we are human. Hope this helps!

I live in Avon and have all my life. I attended Avon schools and although they have grown tremendously I have a daughter and step daughter that attend there now. I am very happy with the school system. The girls love it there. Now unfortunately we are getting ready to put our house of for sale to move either to Danville or Pittsboro. My step daughter is moving also next month to Danville. (If your interested in a house, let me know -- :) ) But as for the school system I love it and are still very happy with it. I think peer pressure you will probably have that anywhere you go, we just have to continually tell our children right from wrong and hope they go in the right direction. Best of luck.

My son is not school-age either, but my nephew was in Avon schools and I hear repeatedly how great they are. My babysitter is in Mooreville and has a high-school age daughter. They like it a lot there. If/when you are interested in playdates with another, toddler, let me know. My husband is military, too, and there is not a whole lot of support in this area.

We have lived in Avon for eight years and my son has attended Avon schools. I love the school district, I love what it has to offer. My some had some learning issues and we felt fully supported by everyone we had to deal with in the Avon schools. I have two daughters and both will be in school in the next two years, I am very glad they will be at Avon schools as well. The sports and acedemics are excellent too!

We did a lot of research as well. I grew up downtown Indy, so I know a lot about the surrounding areas. Right now, we have our children in Plainfield schools. This is very close to Mooresville and Camby. Plainfield by far have better schools. They have been ranked four star schools for years. My suggestion is to look into Plainfield, you won't regret it. The Avon area is way too over crowded, not only schools but traffic in general.

My daughter attends Bridgeport Elementary. It is part of wayne township school district. Bridgeport is a new school (3yrs old now) and has a wonderful staff of attentive and caring teachers and helpers. This is the first year my daughter is in public school, and having come from a private school, I am very impressed with Bridgeports ability to work with kids at all levels of education. My daughter was pretty far ahead of most of the kids in her class and they have challenged her consistantly to keep her from getting bored. I suggest contacting the school and taking a tour. One of the nice extras about Bridgeport is they serve breakfast in the classroom every morning. I have 2 kids and work full time. One of my kids is in school the other preschool, so I have to make 2 stops every morning which involves leaving earlier, so for them to provide this benefit at no extra charge is a blessing for me. Bridgeport Elementary is on Morris St between Bridgeport Rd and Raceway Rd. Their Number is ###-###-####. Best of Luck!!
