My almost 8 month old suffers from congestion off and on and I have been using the vicks cool mist humidifier in his room for awhile now, but I'm not convinced that it really helps. Anyone have a humidifier that they feel really does the trick?

What can I do next?

My son had the same problem last year when he was about 8 months old as well. We did a good amount of reasearch and got the warm mist humidifier(I believe it's made by Viks - I bought it at Target). It seems to work really well. When we go to visit my inlaws for a weekend they had a different one and he would always wake up congested when we wre there. From what we read, the cool mist ones don't work as well but everyone will recommend them for children because you don't have worry about the child burning themselves. We just put ours on top of the bookshelf and even now that he's a toddler he doesn't bother with it.

We haven't had much luck with any of them. Instead, we do a 'steam': steam up the bathroom, with eucalyptus oil in the sink/tub, spending about 15mins in there with our son. We also do saline drops every morning/night. Good luck :)

I don't have much faith in them in general, as I've had several. And it seems that the cool mist humidifiers are recommended, but the old fashioned steam producing humidifiers seem to make the biggest difference, at least in so far as the noticeable difference in moisture in the room. Just never get the feeling with the cool mist humidifiers that there is much mositure in the room. I am curious to see your responses, because I'd like to get a better one too...

We've been through 4 at least and I like this the best - quiet if you need it, noisy (replaces white noise fan for wintertime) if you need it. Doesn't leave residue in the room (my daughter's old one left a white dust on EVERYTHING) and you can usually get two nights out of one filling. It is the BEST!

Stick with cool - warm sounds great, but there is always a risk with a heating element in a child's room.

I have tired them all, warm mist, cool mist and vaporizers. Honestly vaporizers work best. Both my kids have allergies and this is what helps, keep the house or bedroom a bit cooler and put the vaporizor in there. It will warm the room and make it nice an moist, and vaporizers don't have the cleaning problems associated with humidifiers.

Hi, K.:

Get a warm mist humidifier with a well in front.
You can put Young living essential oil of Eucalytus
in the well.

Hope this helps. D.
