Hi,
After being out of work for 2 years, and not going to the dentist, I finally found a job in Washington DC NW. I live in Burke, but am new to the area. Does anyone have recommendations for a gentle dentist in either of these areas who understands people who are scared of dentists because of traumatic dental work done in the past?
Thank you very much for any suggestions.
Y.

Go see Dr. Richard Rice! I just love him and his small practice. He actually works out of the first floor of his home - located across the street from Lake Braddock High School (so it should be relatively close to your home) Don't have the number handy right now but I'm sure he's listed. He cleans my children's teeth too, even though he's not advertised as a pediatric dentist. I went to him after a very scary dentist filled some cavities. Dr. Rice told me I should not have felt as much pain as I did during a filling. He filled any new cavities I've had and it's been pain free.
I know this is not in Burke, but technically Fairfax county (Vienna, near Oakton.) I have to HIGHLY recommend the dentist we see, who has been treating my husband after he didn't go to the dentist for over 9 years...and then he shattered a tooth. Getting him in the door was tough, but ever since he is excited to go, for anything from a cleaning to an implant (that he needed since he didn't go for 9 years!)
The doctor is Dr. Barry Rudolph, and the # is ###-###-####, and the practice is located on Maple Avenue, near Nutley Street - convenient to I-66 and Nutley. I also see Dr. Rudolph, and he uses air abrasion instead of drills when possible. I had never seen a drill before I went to him, and 10 years later I've still never seen one even though he's put in several fillings, figured out I grind my teeth and provided a great mouthguard that helps at night, and filled in where my gums receed as well. As you can see, can't speak more highly of a doc. Oh, and he was the Redskin's dentist for many years as well.
Good luck!
I love Dr. Robert Donahue in N.W. DC. His office is just across from Mazza Gallery. His hours are very flexible and his assistant, Nancy, will file all of your insurance claims for you. They are very nice people and can assist you with your fears. Best of luck.
My husband and I do not like going to the dentist and he had some traumatic experiences in the past so we searched high and low for ours... He is great!! He is in DC NW and his name is Dr. Vajdi and the number is ###-###-####. Everyone there is so nice and gentle and understanding... they use all the current high technology etc and we have always been very happy with him. Feel free to let them know I referred you...
