I have the day off this friday specifically to take my 4 yr old daughter to the beach. We live near the Orlando airport, so daytona, cocoa or new smyrna are all in driving distance. Does any one have a recommendation of a good beach for the 2 of us? We only have the day and I dont want to drive more than an hour..

Thanks!

What can I do next?

We go to New Smyrna. And go all the way down to Bethune Beach. There is a little park on the left hand side, where you can park, and access the beach at the same time. It is a non-driving part of the beach. You just walk down the ramp and the kids can run without you looking for cars. They have a little store there, and bathrooms (relatively clean but I always keep my flipflops on) and also an outdoor shower, so that at the end of the day I can clean everyone off before I load them in the car. Have fun!

My friends love to go to this one when they dont want to drive far. They say it takes about 50 minutes to get there.

Also, when we dont want to drive far we go to Cocoa to the Fisher Park at Cocoa Beach. NEVER packed. Private parking (cost 5$) across from a Wendys (in case you dont want to pack to mnay things) Has a gazebo and play ground next to the parking. We bring a small grill make some good food and than go to the beach or go to Wendy's. They also have (on the way there) a mini golf which looks like fun. Maybe you can do that after you leave the beach. Make sure to take soap and a change of clothes cause they also have bathrooms and shower area.

Have a great time with your daughter!!!

According to Google...Cocoa Beach is the closest to you. (45 min.) If you just want sand and not necessarily beach...try many of the "Springs" in the area. Also, some neighborhoods make have lakes with "beach". At Disney, several hotels have "beach front"...I don't believe you have to stay there to visit...call for instance the Polynesian. ###-###-####. Another home away from home that my family enjoys is just getting a hotel across town and "pretending" we are tourists. Right now the Mike Ditka Resort has a sale for $59/nt. Just check the internet for deals ~ here is the link: http://www.travel-ticker.com/details.jsp?encId=dvlrhls6yt... ~ Good luck. A little about me: SAHM of b/g twins that are 4 1/2 and presently driving me crazy ~ LOL :)

Planning to go there soon, but a good friend of mine recommend Jetty Park at Cape Canaveral - the beach he said is awesome and somewhat safe. New Smyrna I also heard is wonderful. Be safe.

playalinda beach is another great family friendly beach and it located in Titusville/Cape Canaveral area. I think that it's $3 per person in the car to get in and they have clean bathrooms but no showers that I've noticed. There are no cars allowed so it's clean, the water is not rough and it's not over crowded at all.

Somebody else mentioned New Symrna's Bethune Beach Park which is also another one that I like. Have fun wherever you decide to go!

I totally recommend New Smyrna. I live in Altamonte and it only takes me 45 minutes to get there. It's the closest to me. (I think Cocoa might be the closest to you....) But regardless, Daytona has too many tourists and in my opinion is dirty. Cocoa has too much seaweed for me. New Smyrna (to me) is the local beach and there's always mainly families there. I love it.
