I asked this question quite a few months ago and received no response, so I'm hoping that this repost will generate something, anything! :) I have my first and only daughter and am spending a small fortune on all of these cute little hairbows. I really think they would be easy to make. Do you know how???
I want to thank everyone so much for their wisdoms. I don't even know where to begin! I checked out a couple of websites that were suggested and am amazed how creative people can be (There's even a Tinkerbell bow!). I even learned how to make a tutu!!! WalMart, Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge here I come. Thanks guys! I'm going to have a great weekend with ribbon and my glue gun!

Yeah, they are easy. I found a few great sites. I was just saying last night that I need to make more.
A bit of a suggestion, I got my clips, alligator and french from Hobby Lobby...they are awful. I have all of these beautiful bows with clips that are falling apart. The ones from Sallys aren't any better. I think I am going to try to find somewhere online. If someone has suggestions on that, that would be great!
I make hairbows and sell them. I started with this site for free instructions: www.bowdesigns.50webs.com
It is a great place to start! Later on I did buy some different instructions, but for just making your own bows, you probably won't need anymore than that! Good luck, its fun - but addicting!!
It sounds like you have quite a few, so my suggestion is look at your favorites carefully! Break it down into fabric, ribbon, lace, etc. If you have to take one apart, do it. Use a hot glue gun to piece them together. You can buy the barettes at WalMart. Look where they have the hair products and/or the craft area. You can buy a lot of leftover pieces of fabric, etc. cheaper, so look for where they put all of that. With a little imagination, you can do wonders. Here's a few websites.
You can google "how to; hairbows" or look on ebay, there are a few companies that sell them for about $1 each when you buy in bulk (20+) and they have butterflies, bees, lady bugs, Elmo, Cookie Monster, etc. I found that buying from one of these companies saved me time, money and my husband fussing at me for yet another good intentioned project! lol
Best wishes!

http://bowdesigns.50webs.com/index.html is an awesome site. I wish I could say that I have made all of my daughter's bows, but found that I enjoy supporting WAHMs that make them, and figured I would spend just as much if not more getting enough ribbon to make the variety I want! Hope you enjoy it!
**ETA I just read the other responses (after I responded) and saw someeone else (who actually sells hairbows!) recommended the same site. Really, it is awesome!

I make hairbows and sell them online and at shows. One of the best sites for FREE instructions is www.bowdesigns.50webs.com.
You will find a ton of other instructions online that you have to pay for but you shouldn't have to do that.
If it turns out you want to keep buying your bows don't hesitate to check out my website.

Good luck! Making hairbows is so much fun!

Hi C.! I'm not sure if I could tell you how to make hair bows, but I do remember seeing books about making them in bookstores, maybe Hastings or some other major bookstore. Even a craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby might have books on hair bow making. I have two lovely girls myself and a handsome son...going on ages 17, 15 and 13...they grow so fast, don't they? Have fun!

You can purchase the clips to make hairbows at any craft store. You can also adapt most plain clips and those little plastic bar type barrettes that can be found everywhere.
Just fashion the bow and use hot glue to attach it to the OPEN clip. If you accidently glue it shut, allow the glue to dry, peel it off and try again. If you want hangy down things, attach them first. A really quick holiday bow is to get one of those curly bunches of ribbon in assorted colors from the gift wrap area and glue it to a clip. (Usually for older girls because they're so large.)
If you crochet, there are books available for crocheted bows. It's been years but I got mine at Hobby Lobby.
You can even do a ponytail bow. You just hold the ponytail band with the bow as you wrap the center around the bow.
HAPPY CRAFTING!!

I remember making hair bows and ribbons for my hair when I was a teenager. I don't remember how I made them other than using a glue gun. You can get the "blank" clips and ribbon at any craft store. Plain ponytail holders can be bought at Wal-Mart.
Don't just buy the cutzie(i.e. expensive usually) little trinkets to glue on them from the craft store. You could use anything, look at the dollar stores.
With information on the internet these days, I bet you could find all sorts of patterns to try.
Good luck and have fun.

I just searched on the internet until I found some really good tutorials. A lot of the websites want you to buy their booklets on how to make them but if you look hard enough you will find people showing you for free. Try www.youtube as well. Hope this helps.

If you don't have luck making them....go on ebay. Do a search and have it listed by "lowest price and shipping". That way, the best deals are listed first. Lots of ladies make these and sell them.
They cost a fraction of what you pay at those boutiques. Also, you pick from a ton of colors. Some can put in "grippers" which are basically little strips of that rubber material you line your cabinets with. This keeps them in place if your girl has fine hair.

If you are talking about the little barrettes, Joanne's fabric has packs of them in different sizes for cheap. Then just tie bows or buy some of the very cute iron-ons or even buttons they have and glue them on.

Hello C., I do know how to make hair bows and I will tell you how I learned how. I took one apart to see how that one was put together and what was needed. As time went on I got more creative and added my own touch. I even made matching bows to go with the clothes that I made for my daughter. My daughter is grown now but I get to make them for my granddaughter. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

Hello C.. A friend of mine got a pattern/instructions on how to make them online. She just went to Google or Yahoo and did a search. She also bought a large variety of ribbon in bulk online for an excellent price. Now, her little girl has a ribbon for every outfit. Good luck!
Just about any arts and crafts store will have various types of hairclips in the beads section. Find the style/size you want and whatever you would want on them; like ribbons, bows, beads...whatever your heart desires and get use a hot glue gun to put them on the clip...and there you go, a cheaper hair clip.
Good luck!

Make a thin tube of fabric turn inside out and run a thin piece of elastic through it sew ends together and then sew the fabric ends together make a small bow for the front. You can make them to go with any outfit that she has. You will need to measure the size of her head and allow for stretching you will not want it to tight or to loose. Have fun making them.
