After I had my first daughter I went through post partum really bad and got put on Lexapro. When we discovered I got pregnant again, when she was only 2 months, I stopped taking them. I had took them for atleast a month, maybe two at tops, and my daughter was born with vsd. I never had any problems with her condition and thought it was just something that happened but recently I have been seeing all the commercials on tv saying to call if your child was born with vsd and you took Lexapro during your pregnancy!!! What should I do? I'm not after money but if it's the drug that caused this it's not fair to my baby.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It was my ob who told me to take lexapro... but when I had started taking it they told me it was fine to take while being pregnant. I stopped anyway cause I don't like taking anything while being prego. The doctor who told me to take it is no longer practicing medicine and sold her company to another doctor. So I called some attorneys (not the commercial ones) and reported her problems. Personally I don't care if anything happens with this or not, I'm not going to pursue anything with it. My daughter is fine and has had no problems with her condition and I pray that it stays that way.

If you saw an ad that links vsd with Lexapro and you took Lexapro, you should call in. Even if you don't want to claim any money, they need to count you as a "statistic" to get the drug fixed or recalled or whatever it is they do to drugs that cause birth defects.

The only way they'll know it's a problem is if you tell them. The fact that they've already linked the drug up with the defect shows that they've already found an issue. Now they need numbers to back it up. As sad as it is to say, one sufferer isn't enough. They require a group of people in order to affect change.

If one person gets sick they call it a fluke. If two get sick it's a coincidence. Three, it's now a pattern. More... a possible epidemic? Call and be counted.

I agree with the others that you shouldn't call the number from the commercial. THOSE types of attorney's are into making money for THEM. They could careless about you and your daughter. Talk to your OB/GYN and see what they say. If there is a possiblity that the defect was caused by the meds then you need to report it.

And if it so happens that the drug did cause the defect, it isn't greedy behavior if you decide to seek out medical compensation for future expenses that may come up as your child grows. But stay away from commercialized lawyers!!

Good luck!!

First off don't contact those attorneys. I would find a local attorney and speak with them first. You could always contact the manf of the medicine first to see what they have to tell you. It is something that I would check into through.

The first thing i would do is speak w/the dr that prescribed the lexapro to you. Right now i think that w/the economy the way it is law offices are hyping everying up w/all of the medications that have done this, could've done that. That's why i would speak directly w/the dr that prescribed the lexapro - get the dosages & then discuss your concerns they should be able to help you in making a decision from there. I would also speak w/your pediatrician too. If it is something that hasn't caused a problem this may be something where the attorneys may be working something out with the pharmaceutical co's to pay for any future care should that be necessary. I know that this is all pretty scary. Best of luck to you.

I was on Lexapro for my entire second pregnacy and didnt have any problems, in fact my OB/GYN put me on it...I would contact my OB/GYN to see if there is a possible connection. Personally I am sick of lawyers that make their money this way. Every bad thing is not always caused by someone or something.

These vulture lawyers don't care about you - they care about getting as many people aboard the gravy train so they can get a class action suit going and line their pockets with hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If you really want to pursue this because your child's health was adversely affected, you should work through a private lawyer who will focus on your case or recommend you to a class action group.
