Let's Talk Poop...

Hey moms! I know, we've all seen it (and probably worn it) at one time or another. Poop! When my 3 yr old was an infant, he had normal diapers (yellow, lumpy). My 2 month old daughter has always had yellow and no lumps at all, just liquid. She's always very gassy and occasionally burps up milk. My doctor (who I'm not happy with right now for reasons concerning my son) says he's not worried because she's 100 percentile for height and weight. If she were losing weight he'd be concerned. Should I be happy with that and just assume she's got runny poop and extra gassy? I've really watched my diet and limited things like brocolli and stuff. Haven't taken away dairy though. I love it too much!!! :) I would if I had to though. Well, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks moms! (btw...she's 100% breastfed).

What can I do next?

I'm in the same boat as you with my 3 month old. Only difference is she is strictly formula baby since day 1. We have switched formula 6 times, and still poop is the same. She has what they call at daycare blowouts, about 3-4 a day. Completely runny. At her 2 month checkup her weight and height was/is normal. I was supposed to take her to a GI specialist on Monday, but didn't because my husband thinks we need to wait to see how she does when we start her on solid foods. My ped. seems to think that their is something that her body has a hard time digesting, and we may not find out until she starts solids. Good to know I'm know the only one elbow deep in runny poop. Plus I have a 2 year old and he has had a bought with diarrhea for the last 2 weeks, we are testing the poop to see what the problem is. It's amazing the things you do and see when you have children. I have become the poop expert it seems like.
Keep us updated on your little one's poop...so much for gossip, it's poop talk that excites me!! :)

I have the exact same thing with my 4 month old. She is only in the 50th percentile for weight, but that is still good and she is doing well other than gassiness and runny poop :) I do trust me pedi completely. He told me to keep a food diary to see if I can figure it out, but he is not very concerned. Like yours, he said he'd only be worried if she started to show other signs of illness or stopped gaining weight. I hope that puts your mind at ease a little.

For about the first 4 mo. of my 3 kids' lives, their poop was yellowish-orange, all liquid and exploded out of all brands of diapers. I don't remember them being gassy, but the poop had a very strong sweet smell (well, as sweet as poop can smell :) ). They were all BF, and I think that is just the normal BF baby poop.

I've been a nanny/babysitter for over 20 years and have seen countless breastfed-only babies with purely runny poop. Far as I can see, it's normal.
