T.P.
As a physical therapist, I am really opposed to weight loss medicines. So many of them have very harmful side effects, often damaging the heart. They are just not worth the risk unless you are extrememly overweight/morbidly obese and/or at risk of chronic illness.
What CAN you do? Here are some alternatives. First, just because your foot is broken, doesn't mean you can't exercise. You can't run, or walk much, but you can strengthen, which is very helpful for weight loss. The more muscle you build, the more calories you burn and more weight you lose. You can go to a gym and have a trainer show you some options. Or, if you have health insurance, it may be cheaper to ask your doctor for a prescription for a visit to a physical therapist, who can write out an exercise plan for you.
Also, there are 2 parts to the weight loss equation. To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you eat. Another angle you might take is to watch your intake. The only thing that's ever worked for me, and it works well, is to try to limit your meals to no more than what would fit into a coffee cup. And, only eat when you are hungry, not just because it's supper time. If you eat a small meal and get hungry a little later, eat a small snack, but only if you are truly hungry. It's amazing how well that plan works, and you get to eat whatever you want, as long as it's not too much! I hope these suggestions help. It's a bummer to be sidelined with an injury, but just a temporary delay.
