Hi Moms -- just wondering is anyone has been in this situation or have suggestions. My 4, almost 5 year old, is very interested in sign language. We have learned a few from sprout, and her preK teacher is also teaching the class -- but was wondering if we can do more, any classes for younger ones. I know about the classes in the college level -- but i dont have the time and money for the kind of classes. Any suggestions?
I'm in the tampa bay, FL area... if you know anything close by would also help.

What can I do next?

My 4 year old watches the Signing Time show through PBS. He used to not watch it, but now he loves doing the signs along with the show.

I second Signing Time. It's a great, easy series. I know there is a large deaf community in Tampa so you may be able to google some resources or even talk to someone at USF and see what they may know.

I would suggest sign videos. I've taken a class but I plan on taking more because I always have my hands in the wrong direction. We have a school for the deaf that offers classes throughout the school year but it does cost money.

Check out the libraries for DVDs and books... if you find any local classes that are 'affordable' PM me please, because my 6 y/o is going ASL crazy. Her school teaches it and she loves it too.

Our city offers classes at a pretty cheap cost.

I'd call the college and talk with the teacher. the deaf community is pretty tight and they would more than likely know what's available to you.

You can go online to Amazon and buy a few sign language books for cheap so you can read them together and practice the signs and teach yourselves.
