Hi all,
Have any of you guys tried learn to read programs? My son starts Pre K this year but I enjoy working with him at home. So far Hook on phonics has gotten the best reviews can anyone else suggest some other programs? A little insight would be great thanks!

Hello,
The first step is the child learning all the sounds of the alphabet. Leap frog has a great video to learn all the alphabet sounds.
Once that is done, the best series of books is called the BOB bOOKS. they were written by a teacher and they start off with really easy sounding words. These books got my daughter reading.

Discovery Toys has some great games and books that help your child learn to read. Some suggestions... ABC sound Bingo (item 1884), Sound bingo (item 1883), ABSeas (item 2028), Think It Through - beginning reading (item 3002), etc... With these products, children learn to read by playing fun interactive games. They'll be asking to "study" a little longer! www.discoverytoyslink.com/N.
I've heard great things about pensacola christian academy's pre-k home school abeka (sp??) program. you can go on ebay and get them much cheaper and you cannot homeschool from there if you live within 50 miles of the school. (at least this is what I have heard) So, it's a great way to get them started. i plan on doing it with my daughter.
