Leapster or Vsmile Cyber Pocket????

Hi mamas:

My daughter loves to play with my Nintendo DS. I don't mind as long as I am able to sit with her, since it was a fairly expensive little gadget! She will be 3 in a few weeks, and I was thinking of getting her her own version of the DS, that I wouldn't necessarily have to sit and watch her with it, and it would probably be a good learning tool for her, too.

My question is that there are 2 that are similar and I was wanting feedback on which one other moms/children liked the best. My husband did a little research, and we are leaning toward the VSmile, but my sister recommends the Leapster. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Our son has a leapster and all the kids I have watched for daycare play with it too. They really love it! One thing I have noticed though,It seems like once they start playing around with their siblings' more complicated video games (like the DS or even the PS2), they're over it. Suddenly they outgrow it. If your daughter has already played with a DS, you may just want to skip to getting her that. They are pretty durable and I don't think she will hurt it. I'm sure there must be games for that age too. If you have got your mind set, then I vote for Leapster...and make sure you get the one with the base that recharges the batteries or you will be going through batteries like crazy! It's more than worth the extra money. Good luck. :)

I got the Vsmile pocket for my daughter because she had the at home console and the games work in both so it saved money to not buy her a completely new system. she loved it and the games are all educational and focused for different ages. she's since graduated from the Vsmile, but I would completely recommend it. I also didn't have to worry about her dropping it or breaking the games, they are pretty durable - she has a history of being rough with toys. Hope this helps and happy shopping.

I got a Vsmile Baby for my son, who is 1. He loves it. My nephew has one and did great with it so my other half and I got one for our son for his 1st birthday. He has a leappad already that my cousin gave him but likes the VSmile better if that helps you any. My son also likes to watch Daddy play his DS, so I understand what you're going thru. LOL He sits quietly in Daddy's lap and watches him play his game for quite a while by 1 year old standards. He loves Pokemon. LOL

Our vote is for the VSmile! We have both the console and the pocket and both are well loved! We have had the system for four years now. My oldest son is almost seven and doesn't play it as much, but my three year old is really into it right now. I've heard good things about the Leapster also. I really don't think you could go wrong with either system.

Hey K.! My kids have Leapsters-just the plain Leapsters, not Leapster2 or Leapster LMax. They LOVE them. And, one good thing is that the games are compatible with all of the Leapster products (you can use the same ones for the regular Leapster and the LMax).

I'm sure she'll enjoy either product though!

Wow, what timing!!! My 5.5 y/o son just got a Leapster2 and he LOVES it! I got a great deal on it - $59.99 for the Star Wars edition that included a Star Wars math game. My 9 y/o neice got a DS and he thought it was very cool but I didn't think he was quite ready for one of those, not to mention the cost and if he didn't like it...

He has the Vsmile TV system that we got him around age 3 but he never quite got into it. He seems to prefer his Dad's playstation 2 over that! I don't know if the pocket edition would have gone over better or not.

I really like his Leapster2 - he really seems to enjoy it and I feel he is learning some things and there are a lot of games for it. I think you can also go to couponsuzy.com and get a $10 off coupon for the system and $5 off a game, if that helps :-)
