Has anyone else ever had "odd" spots on their clothing? I think it's from the laundry detergent, it's almost light blue in color, it's not bright but definitely noticeable in the light or when the article of clothing is being held up...anyone know how to get rid of them or how to avoid them in the future?
Thanks in advance. }:)

So What Happened?

Thanks for your responses. We don't use fabric softener regularly and this time around it definitely wouldn't be cause by that because I didn't use it and haven't for a while. I use Purex the green ultra concentrated bottle...I guess I will have to get the water filtration checked out because it hasn't been happening all along, just kind of all of a sudden. Thanks for your help again. :)

This is one of my biggest pet peeves! I can't tell you how many articles of clothing have been ruined because of this. I've found if we put the laundry through an extra rinse/spin cycle it helps. I don't use any fabric softener and we use tide. Also, I would recommend not using fabric sheets as they do tend to leave stains. Best of luck!

Hi J., I am not sure what these spots might be; however, Shaklee has a laundry booster called Nature Bright that is a fantastic stain fighter -- it is Shaklee's answer to bleach (which is sooo bad for us). Nature Bright is non-toxic so is safe for us and for the environment. I would try mixing one scoop of Nature Bright in a laundry sink of warm water and then add the spotted garments. Let them soak totally under water for a few hours (or overnight). Wring them out and throw them in the washer. This time, I would try Shaklee's non-toxic laundry detergent - you only use a little as all their cleaning products are heavily concentrated -- this saves you money also as they last longer). Then add one scoop of Nature Bright right on top of the detergent in the dispenser cup of your washer. I think this might get rid of those spots, although I am not sure what they are. You don't mention what brand of detergent you have been using, but I am wondering if that could be the culprit. Please contact me with other questions on this, as I am a Shaklee distributor and enjoy helping to solve problems. Also feel free to browse my site at www.emilytaft.com and read about the Nature Bright and the laundry detergent. My contact info is ###-###-#### and ____@____.com Best Wishes. E. Taft

It sounds like fabric softener spots. This happened to me before and it had to do with the dispenser in the machine. I don't know if you use fabric softener but I thought I would mention it. I had a repair man out and he told me that it is usually how the machine dispurses it. It was clogged so I stay on top of cleaning it out now that i know how and I don't have the spots anymore.

You get this too?! We have high iron and manganese in our water and get blue and sometimes black spots/discolorations on our clothing. Despite using natural and dye-free detergents it still happens.
You may want to have your water tested to see if you need filtration. When our filter was working I didn't have these 'stains.'

It's because the fabric softener is so concentrated. I found that watering down the fabric softener stopped the problem from happening. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything to remove the stains. If anyone has any advice on that, I'd love to hear it!

If you use liquid fabric softener, that could be causing the spots, it sometimes does that.

Hi J.,
I don't use liquid fabric softener so the other posters may have the answer for you. I just thought I'd add that I've had the same thing happen with regular liquid detergents too. It seems to happen when I forget to add the soap to the water first and pour it in on top of the clothes. I've heard its the optical brightener stuff they use in the soap but I'm not sure. The only way to avoid it is to always add the soap to the water first and wait until its a bit diluted with wash water before you throw the clothes in.

it could be fabric softener if you use the liquid kind.

J.,

My spots aren't light blue but more white. I think I solved the issue when I read on some Hannah Anderson clothes that if the clothes are wet before detergent gets on them they don't stain however if the clothes are dry when the detergent gets on them they can stain. It has made a differnce in our laudry.
