Late Teether - Corona,CA

My son who's now 16 months only has "one" tooth. His first tooth came out at 14 months and hasn't had another since. The 2nd one on the bottom has been trying to come out for the last month, and trying is the key word. His Dr. said his top teeth have formed for quite sometime now, but still no signs. She also said that it's ok if he's a late teether, both of her children were also late teethers. I know I really shouldn't be worried, however I'm starting to get impatient. Does anyone else have this problem?

What can I do next?

Hi There...
Dont worry and be patient..thats all I can really say. My daughter was just the same..she didnt get her first tooth till she was about 15 months old. Then they even didnt come in like a normal childs teeth would have. Instead of the cute little two bottom front teeth..my daughters top two teeth came in first then the bottom left two..they came in all over the place..but when they did start coming in..they came in all at once. It took her 4 months to go from one tooth to 8. Now she is 22 months old and still only has 12...we are still waiting on canines..I've heard they are a true pain. Anyhow the best you can do is wait. If your doctor isnt concerned then dont worry..With teeth comes the next worry..biting..lol.

I had a similar situation with my daughter. She had nothing but her two bottom teeth for a long time. At about 18 months, she started cutting a couple more. Then again a few months later, she started cutting a whole bunch of them at the same time. She finally just finished cutting some molars! Don't worry, the teeth will come. =) I was just as worried and impatient as I am sure you are; like my pediatrician said, "they're in there..." "Good luck! I'm sure he'll starting cutting all those teeth soon!

My daughter was a late teether too. The best thing anyone told me about it....the later the teeth come in, the later the cavities start. Just enjoy the time you have without the late nites and crying of teething...it won't last.

this is not a problem!! Kids all develop at their own rates, and teething in kids is so highly variable, there is not really a timetable on it. Ask your mom and hubby's parents when you guys got teeth. And be thankful that he did not sprout them at 4 months while you were breastfeeding (ouch!)
