I'm considering laser hair removal, but don't know where to go or what questions to ask. Any advice/experience/reccomendations you are willing to share?

I'm a little nervous since I want to get my bikini line done and I also have some scarring from HS.

So What Happened?

thx everyone. I think I'm going to wait until school starts and in the meantime find a place I feel comfortable with.

I didn't find it painful at all. The technician used a numbing cream before and an ice roller during. You could request that as well. I've had one treatment so far and got really good results. 4-6 sessions are recommended.

You should pick a place for a consultation if you're nervous. You must have paler skin and darker hair for the laser to be effective.

I did it and LOVE IT!!!!!! go on Yelp.com and look up some local places in your area. I got 50% off my laser treatment I've done it 3x and now waiting for my last treatment... it takes about 4x or more to be all gone, but you will see a difference in about 2 weeks or so... Do it you will love it :)

I had this done awhile ago (10 or 11 years).
The procedure was:
you let your hair grow out for awhile (several weeks) in the areas you want done, then they shave/laser you so they can tell what areas they've laser-ed.
You have to keep coming back for more sessions because it's common for a hair follicle to be in a resting stage for up to 2 months once it's shed a hair, so the process extends over 2 months to ensure they've zapped as many follicles as possible (a hair has to be actively growing in order for this to work).
Unless the process has changed much since I last had it done, you might want to wait for fall/winter to begin treatment but you can use the time to shop around for a good price.

I'm currently doing it on my bikini line and underarms. So far I've had two treatments and haven't even had to shave once in between treatments! It is a pain in the butt to have to wear a wrap when I'm in my swim suit to avoid the sun- but it'll be worth it in the end. But if you can wait till fall/winter that would be best so you don't have to worry about keeping covered during swim season. OH and it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would either.

Hi, I did it and am extremely satisfied. BUT, laser shouldn't occur in the summer time. You shouldn't go under the sun once you've had it done since you may damage your skin. P.S. if you do get it done, make sure you're not tanned either.
You should start laser in the fall. Once is not enough. you will have to go one time every month for at least 12 months to get complete hair removal. I did my legs and bikini for over a year. Unfortunately the bikini grew right in. I have to go again in the fall and have it done. Months may pass and hair might grow, if not I'll be very lucky.

I haven't had it done, but would love too one day. I see 3 treatments for $99 all the time on Groupon.
