So What Happened?

Well I went ahead with it! ;) That was about a month ago now. At first the legs hurt extremely bad during the procedure, far worse than waxing! I even had some slight bruising. I even had little stubbly ends on my legs for about a week or tow following that I didn't anticipate. However, it is now so amazing! My legs are as smooth as a baby's bottom! ;) I would definitely recommend this to others and will for sure go back and do more. The upper lip I also did, but it didn't hurt at all. I am trying the under arms next. Thanks for your posts.

I had a girlfriend who paid big bucks for "electrolysis" for years and it only seemed to make the hairs on her neck come in thicker and darker. I haven't done my homework though; electrolysis and lazer hair removal may not be the same thing.

It was expensive. However,I am thrilled with the results!
I wasn't able to go back every 6 weeks like they advised (the place is 3 hours 1 way from my home), so I ended up doing it over a period of 3 years. I still have a few strays that they didn't get but that may well be my fault.

My recommendation is to have someone drive you and take a muscle relaxer while they do it. It is somewhat like getting hit with a rubber band each time they hit a dark hair (and I had lots)! They should also give you a gel litacaine (not sure if I spelled that right) It's basically a light topical numbinng agent. I recommend that you use it.

I am glad that I did it.

Hey AJ!
I had laser hair removal done on my legs, feet, arms, hands, and underarms. It is incredible! I shave my legs maybe once every couple of months just to get rid of the stray dark hairs and the white ones. I rarely shave my armpits.

Laser hair removal works best on people who have dark hair and fair skin, but that's not to say it won't work on something that is not exactly that. I don't think it works on blonde/white hair.

I can't remember how many treatments I have had done. I went to a place in Phoenix, AZ (actually they have one place in Chandler and one in Scottsdale) called Laser 4 Less. Check out their web site (www.laserforless.com) to see their prices, the type of laser they use, etc. I consider their prices very reasonable compared to some of the other places I have checked out. It may even be cheaper for you to fly out there to have it done rather than go to a more expensive local place!!

Be careful what company you go to. DO NOT buy a package or give a company money in advance. I got taken for about $1500 dollars by a company in Atlanta called Bella Voi (they also had locations in one or both of the Carolinas and in Texas). They went out of business and took my money and I had only had one treatment (I had paid for 9 - 3 treatments on 3 areas). Check out the company before you go there!! Talk to people, look on the better business bureau, look on the internet, etc. Do your research!

Laser hair removal and electrolysis are not the same thing. I had electrolysis done years ago before they had lasers - it is a very slow process and much more expensive for what you get compared to the laser. I got good results from electrolysis, but it is a VERY slow process compared to the laser. Laser hair removal can be painful, but they can adjust the settings depending on what you can handle. Also, it depends on how much hair you have, what body part it is, and I am sure other factors that I am not aware of. It gets better as you go because you end up with less hair after each treatment. Different body parts hurt differently - my opinion is that underarms hurt the worst, but so worth the pain!! It does feel kind of like someone snapping you with a rubberband when you get it done on your underarms, but that is the worst of it. Legs and arms were really not bad, some areas may be more sensitive than others, but it goes by pretty quick.

I think it is SO worth it. Best of luck to you! Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will tell you what I know!

I had it done around my bikini line, but it did not work. It only got rid of about 1/3 of it. My hair color is dark blonde/light brown. I stuck with the process for several sessions. There was no improvement the last two sessions. I would not recommend this unless you have black hair and light skin. Also, if you try it, I would go to a doctor's office to have it done. You may want to get a free estimate on electrolysis instead or in addition. I did not get burned, but the case someone else wrote about sounds pretty serious. Something to consider.

We have a friend who had laser hair removal done on her legs in an attempt to save time with shaving her legs. (She is a very busy veterinarian.) She researched it thouroughly and went to a business that had a good reputation, with referrals and no bad press at the Better Business Bureau.

She received very bad burns from the laser in some spots on her legs, has permanent scars (to the extent that she no longer is comfortable wearing shorts outside of the privacy of her home), and developed a very bad infection that took months to get rid of because it was a strain that was resisitant to most common antibiotics.

She is currently suing the business, and faces a legal battle that could take years to resolve.

Think long and hard about it. Lasers can do great things, but it generates heat, which is not always as controlled (and affects different people differently) as once thought in its infantsy. Some people who have had laser teeth whitening have come to realize that the nerves got too hot and died off as a result of the procedure, costing many more lifetime problems and expensive dental work. Be careful, and weigh all the risks appropriately. Good luck!

I live in Charlotte and had laser hair removal done on my cheeks, chin, and upper lip. I stayed hair free for almost 4 years. We discovered that the BC I was taking at the time was also a hair inhibitor, so I had to go back and have a touch up. It was initially $800 for 5 treatments but my follow up was only $125 for 3 more treatments. I am so pleased. I can't wait to go back and have my legs and underarms done. It's not to painful. I think leg waxing hurts more.

I had it done on my chin, neck and sideburn areas. I had it done at the Hope Skin Center on Stewart's Ferry Pike. They only charged me $100 per treatment. I had 5 treatments about 6 weeks apart. It really reduced the number of hairs on my face. I need to go back for a touch up. The only thing I was disappointed with is the gray and lighter colored hairs it didn't work so well on. I'm still plucking and shaving those hairs until I can get electrolysis done on them.

very very very expensive, and it takes several cycles to get all of the hair. since all of the hairs grow in separate cycles, it takes several times to get all of the hair when it is in a grow cycle. but, that said, if i could afford it, i would do it in a hart beat. can you imagine not having to shave your legs, arms, whatever, any more. heaven.
