I am having laproscopy surgery where they put pencil-size cuts(three) to be exact, in my abdonimal, and i need my left ovary removed due to edometrosis, no cancer, and no pain, just had my pap-smear, and had an MRI, done and the rezults were great, except surgery to have it removed, iam 50 and am really healthy.Have all my parts, they are healthy, except the one ovary.
Was wondering if anybody had this done and what really is the down time.My obgyn said 2 days at the most, surgery is 1 hr.and home in 4 hrs.Just curious. Thanks for your support

I had my appendix out laproscopically in my mid 20's and I think my recovery time was closer to a week and I took pain pills for the first few days. I was in the mid to upper end of a "healthy" BMI and I noticed the hole on the fattier part of my stomach healed slower than the one on the less fat part. Good luck!

I have had laproscopic abdominal surgery twice. The first time i was down for 4 days, woke up with a severe pinch in my right shoulder which is due to some weird thing with the chemicals they do and the fact that they blew air into my abdominal cavity so they could see better.

two years ago I had my gall bladder out 4 months after delivering twins so abdominals were way out of whack, I was in the hospital for 4 days and it took me close to two months to get back up and running as my normal self. i don't think you will need as much recovery time as I did. I think you will need just a couple of days and you should be right as rain.

Good luck!

Yes, I had laparoscopy for endo-related reasons twice. The recovery time is much shorter compared to an open surgery where they make a big incision (I had that one too). You should feel good enough to walk around and do regular light everyday stuff in a couple of days but it may take up to a week to feel completely recovered. So you may want to take it easy for a few days...

It is great that you have no pain with the endo. Most people suffer from unbearable pain :-( I was also one of the lucky few who had (almost) no pain despite severe endo.

You may also want to check out the Endometrisosis Assosication's web site. They have good information and books about the subject.

Good luck with everything! I hope you will be endo-free after this surgery!

I had Laproscopy surgery for an abdominal hernia so not quite the same thing. But the down time wasn't bad. I've it had done twice, the first was more painful than the second, but I think that is because the surgeon had me wear a binder the second time. The pressure of it really helped! Both times I had the surgery on a Wed and returned to work on Monday, but I was feeling better by about Saturday. Best of luck with your surgery and all!

I had one done at 32 to investigate some bleeding trouble. I did not have anything removed though. They cut, insert, blow air into abdominal cavity (to make it easier to see things), cut, remove, deflate, remove tools and tape you closed. I had no stitches. My mom came from Ga to be with me (I was scared. never had surgery before.) After recovery, we went directly to Lowes so I could show her the Christmas decorations I wanted to buy, then drove to Cracker Barrel. I was starving and wanted pancakes!
I walked slowly, a little bent over and still had the bandage on my arm and the hospital band/bracelet. Anyone who thought I walked weird could see I just came from the hospital (some maybe thought mental hospital :) and everyone was very accommodating. It was on a Friday so I rested the weekend and went to work Monday. It never hurt, but I did bleed a little (vaginally). My whole problem turned out to be Hypothyroidism causing hormonal issues, nothing going wrong reproductively! Good Luck and I hope it goes as easily for you as it did for me!

My mom had both ovaries removed laproscopically at age 56. She had 4 incisions and they also inflated her abdomen with air to get a better look around. After the surgery they wouldn't let her leave until she urinated so you might want to drink lots of water after surgery so you can go home sooner. She was pretty painful for about a week, walking slowly, and had some bruising in her abdomen. She is in very good health for her age, but she was laying around for about 3-4 days and not able to do much at all. She did take pain meds for about a week. I think the hardest part for her is that she couldn't pick up her grandkids for several weeks! Good luck, I hope all goes well for you.

I had my gallbladder out Laproscopically and went back to work after 2 days off, had it our Monday afternoon and was back to work on Thursday morning. I never took a pain pill except the first few hours after, when I tried to turn over the stitches pulled and it was uncomfortable...no real pain or anything just the uncomfortable stitches. I only took 1/2 of a Darvocet-N 100 at that.

I also have had exploratory surgery this way, looking for Endometriosis, then later to take care of scar tissue and adhesions in my abdomen.

I have had no serious effects other than a bit of discomfort due to them pumping my abdominal cavity very full of he gas so they could see everywhere the Endometriosis was. I ached like I had over exercised a bit. Again, just some general discomfort, no real pain.

My husband had his appendix removed laproscopically with three incisions in his abdomen. He had it done on a Friday morning, and was golfing on Monday afternoon. He was 34 at the time of the surgery. He had some pain on Friday and Saturday, but by Sunday it was just an achy feeling. He was given oxycodone and said that 1/2 of pill took away all his pain. But he did take his pain meds consistently until Tuesday and then started to wait longer between pills and was off pain meds in a week.
