Has anyone else been laid off? What did you do to adjust? Reevaluating my life, career and opportunities. I hate to say it but I actually don't miss the 45 minute commute each way, rushing in the mornng and evening, and love less stress.

What can I do next?

Yep. I've been there. It's funny how soon you don't miss a lot! LOL
I have since been re-called but I did learn to live on a LOT less, be better organized, etc.
It can be devastating at first, but in my case, it was truly O. of the best things that ever happened to me :)

I did! To readjust I looked at it as an opportunity to go for the fun, cool job I'd always wanted but never went for because the other job paid better. You know what? The fun job is now paying me more than the other one was! It worked out! And I used to drive an average of 200 miles a day...in LA traffic! I work from home now, most of the time in my jammies, and I love love love it! I'll message you with the details!

Good luck! This could turn out to be a GOOD thing!

xoxo,

yes. my hubby and i were both laid off the summer April/June 2009. He was lucky enough to find a new job 15m from the house and loves it. Its still basically what he was doing before but the hours are normal 9-5ish hours with no weekends.

I was lucky enough to get rehired by my company 10m later. I still had to go into work everyday so I didn't get the down time, but I had been putting out resumes hopping for a closer commute.

We even contemplated selling the house and moving to the beach just because we could. We are close to all of our family here, so that won out.

There is a book that I recommend to all of my clients who are going through this (I'm a career coach). It is called "Transitions" by William Bridges. It can help you understand what you are feeling and going through during this time. It's a great book for going through any major life change, not just a job change.

I got laid off in 1992 and never worked again. I've gone through missionary training, had 5 kids, homeschool, teach dance in my home, been a stay at home mom and wife and never missed working ever...lol I'm sorry to hear about your lay off but I do wish you the best and pray that you'll find something even better with minimal commute! ;) Good luck!

ditto on the financial issues! my husband was also laid off and didn't do much looking right after...surprise! unemployment ran out and he didn't have a job. he started looking and found that there are few to no jobs in his field. long story short he ended up turning a hobby of his into a business and is doing ok now, but don't wait to start looking for something else. it probably seems like a vacation now, but it will soon end and the bills will keep coming!

I haven't been laid off by my husband has. You actually say nothing about fearing financial problems, but that is what I feared most. It is amazing how the Lord did provide for us while he was in between jobs. My husband is very mechanically inclined, so he did a lot of work for friends on their vehicles and such. But it was an adjustment to have him home so much. It took about a week or so to get used to having him around more and then we missed him when he went back to work. Enjoy the break from the rat race for a while. I'm glad you're getting a chance to reevaluate your life. I was encouraged by the lady that said after her lay off she took one of those fun jobs that she wanted to do before but always stayed with her other job because it paid better. I'm a 911 dispatcher and that is a great job but lots of responsibility. My dream job would be working at a vet clinic again or working in a greenhouse or working with kids somehow. What is yours?
Have a blessed day!

I actually quit my job 5 years back. The stress of my job, the one hour commute one way and the stress of my boss cost me so much of my health. I actually started a home business and have never looked back. Why would I stay in a stressful situation when I can make nearly the same amount without the commute, without the stress, and helping people? I see you are in Ambler...I am in Warrington. My suggestion is to keep your options open. Don't say no to anything...you just never know. Good luck.
