Hi Moms,
I just started running 4 weeks ago, 3 times per week, about 30 minutes per day. I am doing the couch to 5k program which does intervals of walking and jogging to work your way up to running for the full time. In the past two weeks, the insides of my knees have been very sore. I haven't had any kind of injury. I warm up and stretch afterward like I am supposed to. Any ideas what could be causing it? It's a very strange location!! Thanks!
Cyndi

I am wearing new balance running shoes.

What can I do next?

you NEED to buy Glucosamine (sorry about the spelling)...they sell it at the store called Ostio-bioflex (but at walmart you can buy generic). it lubricates your joints...after a few days the pain will not be there. That happend to me too...dont sweat it. But it will work

How old are your running shoes? For that type of wear and tear you should get new shoes every 6-8 months. It sucks because shoes are so expensive, but if the supplements don't work, you might want to try a new pair. To me it seems like everytime I get shoes worn in the right was I start getting shin splints and knee pain signaling it's time for a new pair.

You might always want to check out a Track Shack or Fleet Feet, or other type of running store for a shoe fitting. They will video tape your legs and feet while you run in your current shoes and tell you the best type of shoes for your gait and stance. The diagnostic is free and you don't have to buy the shoes from them, they are usually a little more expensive than say Foot Locker or Khols.

could be bursitis, arthritis, or even miniscus. I have torn miniscus in each of my knees and it is a slight pain. it hurts more when walking or jogging uphill. you may want to go to an orthopedic surgeon before ruining it further and needing surgery.

Hi Cyndi!
I started running last summer and had similar pain. The first things to hurt were actually my ankles. They were so sore and swollen that I thought maybe I had sprained them both and didn't know it!! With a little rest they got better. Next my shins hurt, then my knees. It was like the pain worked it's way up my legs. After a couple of months I would only get the normal muscle soreness after a long run and now I'm training for my second half marathon! I think my body was just in shock from a new form of exercise and using muscles in a way I hadn't been before. I'd give yourself some time and don't push yourself too hard, too fast. Good luck!! :-)

What kind of shoes are you wearing??? Also as suggested definitely take the glucosamine supplements for your joints...If it persists see your doctor to get recommendations. He/she may refer you to an Orthopedic doc just to be checked out and to give you tips and ideas. If you don't want to go that route look at a consultation with a personal trainer so you are doing stretches and routine correctly...One day at a time though.
