So I'm doing some work in my kitchen and was wondering if anyone knows more about this than I. I would like to build a cabinet with a drawer that is about 10-12in. high and place my slide in stove on top. Does anyone know if this is safe or doable. I have been looking over the web on and off all day and can't find anything.

What can I do next?

I have a wall oven and a separate stovetop that's dropped into an opening in the countertop. The cabinet undernath is where I keep all my pots & pans.

A couple of things to consider if you wnat to make your stove stop a slide-in & out drawer:
- the cabinet surrounds int must be heat and flameproof. I would worry that the drawer walls and underneath or countertop would be susceptible to scorching. If the countertop is going to be stone you'd have to make sure the stone isn't susceptile to cracking fromt he expansion / contraction of heat / no heat. I realize the intent is not to push the stove-darwer back in until it's cooled off - but electic stove-tops can take a while to cool down - expecially the glass topped ones. And other people don't always follow our ktichen guidelines.
The other considerations its that when the drawer-stove is pulled out you lose space in the kitchen with which to maneuver around.

So if those factors are taken into account I think it would be really cool.

I've seen a cook top over cabinets, when the oven is a wall oven and in a separate place.

Or, I've seen a slide in range with a built-in drawer on the bottom (which is what mine is now).

Or, I've seen a slide in range with a double oven, one small and one large but no drawer (which is what I want).

But, I've never seen a built-in cabinet under a range, because then the range would be too high.

I have a cook top with cabinets underneath. The oven is in an adjacent wall at eye level. Love it. A drop in range would work. To install one would just have to build a frame to hold drawer and range.

This wouldn't work so well with a slide in range. A drop in range needs a base built for it. A slide in already has a base. You could build a platform with a drawer but then the top of your stove would be too tall. Tall work surfaces cause fatigue.

You could test this by putting something the height your platform would be on top of your counter and try working on it. Perhaps stir a soup as you would on the stove.

It's called a pull out range top. Here are some links.

The original covered range top stove. I almost bought a house with one of these in it. She was taking it out so we didn't buy the house.
