Hey T.~
I don't know how it tastes, and I think it may be more like Enfamil that Similac (it should say on the can which it compares to), but it mixes GREAT! I do recommend it!

Does this compare to Similac? Taste at all similar? I have been feeding my son Similac for 10 months. I saw how much more reasonable Kirkland brand is at Costco.

My son loved Kirkland.. and so did we.. so much cheaper.. we started him on similac from birth to about 2 months and then just switched him to kirkland and he did fine.
PS.. we love their diapers as well :)
Good luck
I had the same question because we feed Enfamil at home and the day care offered to supply Kirkland. Our daughter's pediatrician saw no issue with using the Kirkland brand, so we went with it. Also, I think if you compare the values on the nutritional lable straight across, they are the same.
As far as taste goes, our daughter never even batted an eye when she got the first Kirkland bottle. From an adult taste perspective, they are both pretty icky : )
Hope this helps!

HI, T. -
Yes, it is EXACTLY the same. My niece worked for Abbott Labs in Casa Grande. They are the manufacturers of Similac. Their plant manufactures the Kirkland brand of formula for Costco. Same stuff, different label on the can. My three children all thrived on it, and the cost savings is amazing. Nearly half the price of the name brand. Enjoy the savings!
I don't know anything about Kirkland formula, however I used to use some off brand formula. I think it was Carnation or something like that. Just look at the nutritional info. on the back. As for taste, see if your baby likes it. If he doesn't, try something else, or tell him to get a job to pay for his tasty Similac. ;)
Not sure how it compares to Similac but we switched our daughter at about 6 months from Enfamil to the kirkland brand and she did sooo much better! Our doctor told us about it and how it is pretty much the same as the name brand formulas. She was one who spit up a lot and was just overall fussy.. We did a gradual switch that took about two weeks to get her on the full kirkland and once it was all over I had a little girl who was happy and didn't spit up or have terrible gas!
The only bad thing I found is that they at times do not have stock on the formula so we always bought the two cans and when the first one was done and we opened the second one it was time to get another supply that way if they were out we had a few days!
We used Enfamil, but when I tried to switch my son to the generic formula, he threw up EVERYWHERE. Although the pediatrician said it should be no problem to switch, it didn't work for us. If you're going to try switching, I would maybe try mixing the formula starting with just one scoop of the new formula with several scoops of the old and slowly switch it to the new formula. Our pediatrician said the biggest difference between brands is the flavor and babies, like the rest of us, like what we like so it may take a while for your little one to get used to the flavor of a new forumla. Good luck!
Read the ingredients carefully. Too much soy isn't good for boys since it contains a lot of estrogen. Try natural alternatives like home-made almond milk. Avoid soy and dairy.
Be careful when switching formula. I tried to switch to Kirkland brand and my son vomited for days before I realized it was the formula switch. The doctor told me that you have to be careful when switching and do it gradually. If your son is 10 months, he'll be swtiching to whole milk at a year, so maybe you can just use Similac for a few more months until you switch to whole milk? Good luck.
Hi T.,
I used to work for a company that had an account with Abbott labs in Casa Grande that makes Similac and packages the formula right there. It is the EXACT same stuff that goes into the Kirkland cans. It is hard to know which off brands are contracted out directly from the name brand source, but this one I know for sure, first hand.
I guess it just depends on the child. My first 2 drank Kirkland after all of our free samples had been used up. But my 3rd child got an allergic reaction to all formulas except Similac(light blue and Soy). She also got a rash and projectile vomited. So if you switch keep an eye out and don't introduce anything else new for a while.
i work at Costco, you can buy it and try it if your son doesnt like ti just return for a full refund.
Same response as most you have so far...My sister is a nurse at our pediatricians office & the Dr tells EVERYONE who uses Similac or Enfamil formula to use Kirklands. I've heard him say so myself that its the EXACT same made in the same place..just a diff label. Angers me how used we all are!
I was told that there is no difference in the two. So i bought the Kirkland brand for Costco, and found that it my little girl, 6 months old, was spitting up, witch she had never done on Similac.. No this may not happen to your little one, but there realy is no difference...
hope this helps..

I feed my babies the Kirkland brand. Similac and Kirkland are pretty much exactly the same. If you go to Costco you can compare the ingredients side by side. Sometimes in emergencies I have small cans of Similac and feed it to my son, and he has never noticed a difference. It is much easier on the wallet, so that's a huge plus.
Hi T.,
My daughter started off on Enfamil because that is what the hospital & her doctor's office gave us but then I switched her over to Kirkland & she did perfectly fine, getting the same nutrition. I had compared the ingredients on both labels next to each other & they are pretty much the same. I think Similac will be just the same.
I am sure your son will do just fine w/the switch & you will save a few dollars now. =)
Have a good day.
