My cousin and his wife will be heading over to Afghanistan in a few weeks and I'd like to have my son's kinder class show their support for our troopsin some way. I'm open to anyting: banners or letters, etc. but I'm not sure what would be the best/practical thing to do I'm hoping you creative Mamas out there can offer up some ideas . My son's class has 28 kids and I'd love to have them do some sort of project that we could send over to my cousin & wife's unit. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

What can I do next?

My husband was stationed in Iraq and he has told me that the best letter's they received were from elementary schools with drawings and writing from kids. You could have them write letters thanking them and maybe drawing a flag or something like that. Thanks a lot for taking your time to do this, this is a really nice gesture. God Bless America and God Bless our Troops. Thank God my hubby is home after three tours out there, he has some health issues, but he's here with us. Please keep those men and women in our prayers. They are the best!

We did a card-making booth at our elementary school carnival. I purchased card stock, cut it in half and folded it. I also purchased military and patriotic stickers. I also provided markers. We made a list of simple phrases that the little kids could copy. The kids made cards for Operation Gratitude. It was wonderful and I know much appreciated by the troops. I printed out an address label with my home adress and stuck it on the back of every card - just so I could keep track of incoming letters - and there were quite a few. I brought them to school and we published them in our newsletter so the kids could see them. If you want to email me I can give you more ideas. What you are doing is really great. ____@____.com

They could all make cards for the troops. When my son's cub scout troop were looking for something, we copied a Christmas design on a card and made lots of copies, then each scout colored a handful of cards and we sent them out. You could also do a cookie drive to send holiday cookies to the troops.

Hello, Why not see if they can each make a card and then try to have each student bring one basic necessity (soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, pads, etc. This is what I understand they need. Maybe you could throw in some homemade fudge, or cookies.
Good luck.

How-A-bout a Flag banner made out of the childrens feet for the stripes and thier fingers for the stars. After it dries have the kid right thier name on the feet or around the flag. My sister sons glass did this for my brother-in-law in Kuait he serves in the Navy. The hole base enjoied it. They thought it was one of the coolest things. Plus the kiddo loved it too. Just have a pale of water or 2 near and a few old towels to dry off with.

I hope this helped

As it's almost winter and it gets really, really cold out in the field. You could buy or have parents donate some hand warmer packets and have the kids write small cards with something like "Your service warms my heart, so I want to warm your hands" or something like that. My church group does "Christmas in Iraq" every year (or Afghanistan, or wherever in the field since when they're 'in country' we never know their exact location...). We've been told by the troops that they appreciate the hand warmers. Oh, and they let us know they LOVE microwave popcorn! I guess some that are in barracks have access to microwaves and it brings them a sense of home.

Let us know what you decide. I think it's a marvellous project!
