Okay my daughter is almost 2 and scratches the heck out of her self, (neck, arms, stomach, legs) we have not changed her soaps or anything, except from the jj baby stuff to suave kids body wash and shampoo and its been that way for about 6 months. I am no sure if its dry skin or if its a confort thing for her or her skin is itchy from a reaction to the soap. Im not sure what is goin on, we keep her nails cut to make sure they are not sharp. Her grandma(dads mom) suggested we try a hypoalergentic soap, oatmeal, or all natural soap for her to see if it helps along with a hypoalergenic, oatmeal, or organic shampoo and lotion. any suggestions?

we use all free detergent and has since she was born

What can I do next?

Its probably dry skin - how often is she having a bath? A 2 year old really doesn't need a bath everyday in the winter. It will definitely dry out their skin. Also, it could be the soap. I have one son who reacts to some of the soaps and the dr told us to use dove.

Could also be your laundry detergent or fabric softener. Maybe even a nervous habit - my daughter used to rub the backs of her hands on the school rug until they bled; it lasted for a few months.

Maybe it's an allergic reaction?

aveeno makes great products for dry skin, my 3 month old has eczema very badly and will scratch himself bloody even though I cut his nails every day. The lotion really seems to help cleat it up. I would also suggest california baby products, or if the jj stuff wasn't causing issues when she was little then just switch back. No reason not to.

My son has eczema - we use either Dove Sensitive or Cetaphil bar soap, and then Cetaphil Moisture Cream.
I would definitely try different soap.
Also fabric softner can cause reacations.
If this doesn't help, then you might want to check if it might be a food sensitivity.

Does she possibly have eczema? My son first started showing signs of it about the age of 2. He would scratch his hands and arms all the time, I took him to the Dr. and found out it was eczema. Aveeno has an eczema lotion that works really well. Good Luck!!

Whole foods sells a line called 360 and it is free of harsh detergents. I switched my daughter to these when we had a breast development scare at 3 1/2. It is really nice and mild, lauryl sulfates are bad
