Hi D.,
I remember seeing some halloween recipes in my parenting magazine. Go to parenting.com and do a search for halloween recipes and it will bring them up.

I'm throwing a small Halloween party for about 10 kids that are between 2 and 4. I would like to come up with some Halloween theme food ideas so I'm asking if you all know of any. I've got cupcakes taking care of. My plan was to try and come up with a few items that would also pass for lunch. Thanks in advance!!!
Thank you all so much for your input! We had a great time at the party! I did the mummy hot dogs which were a huge hit. And I cut out pizza dough with the help of cookie cutters and made little witch, pumpkin and bat pizzas. I took a small pumpkin cookie cutter and cut out cheese shaped pumkins. And severed grapes also. I did the punch with sierra mist, fruit punch and OJ...which was yummy! And we had festive little cupcakes. And a friend of mine brought a sandwich tray for the adults.

There is so much you can do even at that age. We did a long sandwich and cut it then placed the pieces in an s shape. At one end you put 2 olives for eyes and cut a piece of cheese for the toung. Instant snake. You can also add plastic bugs or those spider rings to just about anything and let the kids keep the rings after they eat. HAve chicken wings, but call them bat wings. They are a perfect portion size for that age and you don't need to really do anything. Just a few thoughts.
mini carrots = "witches fingers" to dip in
ranch dressing = "witches brew"
grapes (off the stem)= eye of newt (or any kind of eyeball)
Also a fun game for all ages is the "Mummy Race" where you break up into teams of 3 players. One is the "mummy" and the other two wrap the mummy in toilet paper. The fist team to finish wins!
Someone used chicken nuggets for fingers once-- but at that age, I don't think it matters. You can look on the internet, but most of it is desserts or really gross looking stuff children that age might not eat. I would serve normal foods and save the creative stuff for the dessert.
Mel
Orange rice krispy treats w/some kind of black decoration (licorice?) or shape them like little pumpkins.
I did one of these when my son was in kindergarten. We had PB&J sanwiches that I cut with a large pumpkin shape cookie cutter. Mummy finger with blood suace...which are hot dogs wrapped in pillscury crescent rolls with ketchup of course! I did eyeball cookie but they didn't go over as well. I also had some regular food too. I still have the magazines I used to get ideas. If you message me I could type up some of the things out tof there. Lots of cool ideas for kids and adults!
i dont know if you all have kroger where you live but im sure most stores have these.... if you go through the check out line there are little books with ideas for Halloween treats. if you cant find one and you want some ideas write me back i have 2 books and there is some really cute stuff!

I just threw a Halloween party for 11 year olds and I got my food ideas from the boxtops website at www.boxtops.com but all of my food was simple and yummy and would be great for your age kids too.
They are as follows:
Mummy Dogs--which are hot dogs wrapped up in thin cut slices of cresent roll dough. Leave a space for where the face would be. Bake as directed on cresent roll package. You can even make dots of mustard on face for eyes, nose, mouth after baking if you like. Very cute!
Mummy Toes--wrap cocktail weennie with an almond slice on top to look like a "toenail" in a thin slice of cresent roll dough. Bake as directed on cresent roll dough package. Looks like a toe and too cute!
Witches Brew Punch: Add 1 frozen can of fruit punch, 1 frozen can of orange juice and add 2 two-liters of Sierra Mist or Sprite together. Serve. Very good and actually just a great anytime punch recipe!!
Sugar Cookies: Get the Pilsbury Sugar Cookie Dough that is meant for rolling and cutting ccokies from. Get some cheap dollar store Halloween cookie cutters or just shape them like long bones with 2 rounded heads on each end. Sprinkle white white or black or whatever color sprinkles! Bake as directed on package.
Pillsbury (or Tollhouse) has some yummy choch chip ready to bake cookies with orange and black choc chips that are yummy and easy to make too.
All my kids raved about my food and I'm sure your's will too!!
Enjoy the time you spend with the kids--it's so important to their lives and yours...:)
Good luck and have fun!
The pillsbury website has Crescent Mummy Dogs. Basically a hotdog wrapped in strips of crescent rolls and baked. Really cute! Good for lunch too.

try kraftfoods.com they have lots of ideas
We are making a fun mouth out of apple slices. My son is allergic to Peanut butter so I am using marshmellow fluff. 2 apple slices a little of the fluff between them and the kids can add raisin teeth. Lunch ideas not really sure of without it being a bodypart or a little gross for that age group. Have fun!!
finger sandwhiches.... cut into strips, round off on side and use half a green olive for the finger nail.
You may checkout websites like Kraft, Good Housekeeping, Parents/Parenting...many of them have holiday food ideas, but I just can't remember all I've seen.
You can cut little orange cheddar cheese squares out with a mini pumpkin cookie cutter, place them on crackers... very cute!
How about hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls to look like mummies w/ mustard or ketchup for the eyes, i saw this idea in a magazine somewhere, but i can't remember which one.
Another idea is to make pb&j sandwiches w/ white bread and cut them into ghost shapes - use choc chips for eyes and mouth
See link below to the Halloween Center at Kraftfoods.com with lots of great ideas. You can sign up to receive their e-newsletters.

I saw a cute idea using hot dogs and crescent rolls. Instead of tearing them apart in triangles, leave the whole thing as one big rectangle and cut it into strips about the width of a pencil. Then wrap the strips around the hot dog like a mummy. Maybe a little time consuming but since you had a smaller number of kids coming i thought it might work :) Good luck!
D., I recently seen a bag with the title of Witches Fingers which was Crunchy Cheetos, you know the skinny knobby little sticks, I suppose that is where they came up with the name. :)
Have you looked at FamilyFun.com for recipes... There are a ton of them.
Hope your party goes as planned! Sounds like fun!
Starting about 2/3 of the way down on a hot dog, cut it into strips lengthwise (about 6). When you boil it the ends curl up to make an octopus. I also made meringue and put it into a ziplock bag, cut one corner and squeezed it into the shape of a bone. the kids loved both. Have fun!
Mummy Dogs:
Hotdogs
Crescent Rolls
Mustard
Cut crescent rolls in strips, wrap around hotdog leaving room for a face. Bake according to temp on crescent roll package until brown. dot mustard on to make eyes and mouth.
Serve with mac & cheese. Everyone's favorite. Will keep them busy and full.
I had my daughter's 3 yr bday party today and incorporated Halloween snacks. I made pb&j sandwiches and used pumpkin cookie cut outs to make them into pumpkin shapes. Everyone loved them! I have the Pampered Chef mini cookie cutouts where one sandwich makes 4 minis but you could use a bigger one and they each have their own sandwich. I also had a bowl of peanuts, pretzels, and candy corn. You could do caramel apples and slice them for them to eat. I bought mini pumpkins as their take home goodie treat instead of goodie bags. they can decorate their own cookies in halloween decor.
popcorn balls are a hit. try googling halloween party treats.
have fun! W.
I would definitely make dirt cake. I bought a necklace with skulls and crossbones and put them on top, oval cookies for tombstones, candy pumpkins and of course gummy worms. There are lots of recipes on the net for it and kids and adults LOVE IT!
I don't remember where I saw the idea. It was for mummys. You take hot dogs and wrap in a dough like biscuit or cresent roll. You have to roll it out thin. Cover all but the top/one end about a quarter of the hot dog. Then take a small piece to put on the end like a hat. Bake in oven until biscuit is baked. Decorate the exposed hot dog with mustard to make a face. I think that it might of been in the coupons, try the Pillsbury site. Food Networks sight also has ideas for all holidays. Remember to do something easy so you can enjoy the party and not be stuck preparing food all the time.
