Kid Pajamas

Mamas & Papas-

DS is nearly 4 and has outgrown his footy fleece pajamas. What did you do for your kids when they were about that age? We've used carter and old navy in the past. Seems straightforward, but I'm not one to shop. So thanks for your tips.

What can I do next?

We loved Loved LOVED Hanna Andersson pjs and were sad when we finally outgrew them.
The cotton is very soft and comfortable, it washes well and lasts forever.
We always liked bare feet so we never did footed pajamas.

We've don't like the footed or tight fit PJ's. I stock up once a year at the carters store or target. Sometime I find really nice ones at Gymboree on clearance. Their fabrics are the best.

For my son - we buy just packages of boxes and colored undershirts. Can do the same for girls get them boy boxers and girl tank tops in the pacakges

I really like the Hanna Andersson pjs-- they can double as long johns and last forever. I also made a couple pairs of flannel pjs for him (had some leftover fabric). He also sometimes just wants shorts and a tee shirt. He's seven-- I figure he's the one who has to sleep in them.:)

We never did footie pjs. Hardwoods + steep stairs= accidents. If it was cold, he wore slippers that didn't slide.

I'm assuming you're talking about footed blanket sleepers.
Once the kids moved out of baby/toddler sizes the only place we find them to buy in bigger sizes is Target. They have both boys and girls. They go up to size 16 or 18 even. They start at a size 4 in the "big kid" section.
If the kids don't want to wear the one piece blanket sleepers we get them 2 piece fleece pjs and they were them with socks or even slippers. We get a lot of our PJs at Costco. You have to buy them early in the season because they always seem to be picked over by the time the weather is right for them. Children's Place is another good place for pajamas. We buy the kids their Christmas ones there every year. They sell matching snowman ones and include adult sizes so everyone in the family can match.

Children's Place footsie pjs go WAY past that size.
I've seen adult footsie PJs at kohls & Macys.
My son like the soft short/pant/tee sets.
Even soft tees on sale at old navy are great for sleep shirts..
And boxer briefs.

The Children's Place has great winter pajamas. I think I had a coupon or something once upon a time when DD#1 was about 4 years old, and I bought a bunch of Children's Place fleece pajamas. Long story short, she wore them several years until she grew out of them (I bought them big), and now DD#2 is still wearing them (this will be 3 years now for her). These pajamas are still brightly colored, soft and fleecy. I can't believe how well they held up vs. the other brands we have tried (Crazy 8, Gymboree, Carters, Target's store brand, etc.).

I would look for two piece footless pjs if you don't want to go up a size. they still make footie jammies in 5T. Carter's off brand, Just One Year, sold at Target is one brand. You can look for fleecy versions, too. I kind of just buy what I see or frankly in the summer she sleeps in shirts and biker shorts/cotton shorts.

Whatever pjs I buy (and we lived in AZ so never had a need for footed PJs), I make sure they are fitted and cotton. The other ones, non fitting, have flame retardant chemicals in them and I just don't think those chemicals need to be next to my children's skin 1/3 of the day.

Carters - which I have always purchased at Costco - way better prices and they often have the 3 piece sets (top, shorts & pants) rather than the two piece ones at the Carters store. Kirkland (Costco's brand) seems identical to Carters and I suspect that is who makes them.

Gymboree - they have both the snug fitting cotton (which I buy) and the flame retardant loose fit ones.

Hanna Andersson - the BEST pjs but pricey unless you wait until the end of season sales - and then they go FAST.

I have purchased Old Navy - they seem lighter weight to me than the other brands (although often very cute). Same for Crazy 8 (second Gymboree brand).

ETA - @B - no one ever outgrows Hanna pjs. They come in adult sizes too. Although with an even higher price tag.

I stopped with footy PJ before this. My boys are active and it's too easy to slip in those. I moved to regular pants and shirts PJs.

Old tee shirts that I don't let them wear out in public, shorts that are thin and knit, sweat pant bottoms, tank tops, anything comfortable and cool enough they'll sleep and not get hot.

I've bought kids footed pj's up to size 10/12 around Christmas time. They are a tradition.

Here are some links to stores that carry regular pj's all the way through big kids sizes. I hate these long links but when you find it when you've searched they always seem to have a lot of gibberish.

Don't the footie pjs go up to size 5 or 6? Has he outgrown these?

For girls, I found bigger sizes at Target. They may also have boys, but I don't tend to check that section out.

If they still fit from crotch to neck but the legs are too short, I cut the feet off. If they have elastic around the feet I cut above the elastic so the kids could wear them as slippers. They always thought that was fun.

I have seen footed pj's at Target here in Florida, which seems like a waste of money down here. But my daughter has always liked nightgowns even when we lived up north.

Most stores carry a variety of pj's.

My kids like old and oversized t-shirts. Otherwise the sets I get them come from Justice/Brothers, Target, Old Navy...normally.

THey do many the footed pajama's up to adult size as well, if your child likes those.
