I recently got a small, very thin pillow at Ikea. It is made for a toddler bed. My daughter was about 22 months when we got it and she loves it.
Hi ladies,
We recently spent the weekend up north. The days were hot but the evenings cooled down and the temp was about 50 degrees at night, it was cool and I used blankets to keep myself warm. I gave my son a blanket (20 months) but he doesnt understand that he should cover himself up. He would wake up in the morning cold and I was worried about him getting sick. What do you ladies do to keep your kids warm at night? The bedroom he was sleeping in is tiny, and the window was open but the door was shut so I was worried that he could get warm but obviously not.
Also, I am wondering what you give your toddlers for a pillow. Do you give them a regular twin size pillow or do they make pillows that are smaller for toddlers? I have not idea.

Try long footie pajama's
As far as keeping covers on that's something they just learn to do as they get older
As far as a pillow anything will work, I have always given my daughter a regular twin pillow sometime after she turned 1.
I would shut the window, and try the door open and try the door shut sometimes it makes rooms colder sometimes warmer.
And a child can't get sick from being a little cold, like not wearing a winter hat that's just a myth. You get sick from germs.
My 22 month old doesn't use a pillow at all and we put socks and a onesie on under his footie pajamas when it's really cold.
Try a travel pillow...Walgreens sells them at a great price. Or, if you are looking for a brand name, Pottery Barn Kids sells maller pillows with, of course, very stylish cases to match!
And, don't worry, only germs make children sick. Not that we want our children to GET sick...but, at this age, if they do come down with a cold/flu--they will be healthier later. To us, that translates as less sick days from school when it REALLY counts.
Try pajamas with the feet attached, if he won't wear those (which my son refused after 9 months) then you can do thicker fleece pants and tops and have him wear thick socs to bed.
As for pillows, you can give him a twin (I personally haven't seen anything smaller but I haven't looked as my oldest won't use a pillow).
They sell sleepsaks in XXL you have to call the store ahead of time because they only stock a couple or i dress them in feeted pj my son who is 5years old still kicks off the blankets at night and wakes up cold i also have started using a sleeping bag for him and we zip it up to keep him warm.
About the pillow i hated thet the pillow took up so much of the crib i used a travel pillow they are smaller and fit his head so much better.
The cabin we stay at up north onlly has a heater in the central area so our bedrooms get cold at night too. My daughter is almost 18 months and we brought her this year and last. I just had her wear he footie pajamas and she was plenty warm. She doesn't do blankets yet - when she'd switch to my bed she'd get out on top of the comforter.
I have regular pillows in her bed. They aren't the big bulky think ones though, just thinner ones. And she scoots off them anyway during the night.
I just let my two year old do what she wants but when we were up north the beds that were in the room had comforters and there was no way to untuck them so she had to stay covered. We also let her use the normal pillows and she didn't have any problems at all. If she didn't want it she would simply shove it onto the floor.
I just use a regular twin pillow. It's usually a little flatter then the pillows that Mom and Dad use.
I would look for a sleepsack. Also, I am sure you can find toddler size pillows somewhere (or a small travel pillow?). Otherwise, if you know someone who sews, it would be a quick and easy project.
Hi,
My little girl really likes a little travel pillow I found I think at Walmart. They also had different colors of zip-up pillowcases--bright green, blue and other colors. Also, we dress our kids warmly in winter PJs (with socks if the PJs don't have feet) since they also kick off the blankets frequently.
Hope that helps!

I have the same problem with my 3 year old daughter. She hates a blanket covering her. Just make sure that they are dressed really warmly. I put a tshirt on under her jammies and she wears thick socks. I got a small pillow at KMart - it was called a travelling pillow and was about half the size of a regular one. I had to make the pillow slip/cover because I couldn't find one small enough.
They do make smaller pillows called travel pillows. they work good. When we go camping I usually take feeted pajama's with so the kids don't get cold.
When my child was about 14 or 15 months old, we moved her into a twin bed with a safety rail and a trundle, which we pull out so she's got an easy, soft step down if she wants to get out. She's really been good about staying in bed when we put her down and she really loves her bed. I gave her a down comforter which is covered in a duvet and a hypoallergenic basic queen pillow, along with the same in a Euro square size and she's been fine. She's about 19 months old now and we've never had a problem Our child is healthy and strong. The issue at the beginning with pillows, blankets and such for children is that they're not strong enough to move their heads if they're not getting enough air. Once these muscles have developed, they shouldn't have a problem with this. Our little girl moves all around her bed whilst sleeping.
I use a sleep sack to keep my guy warm at night. If it gets down to 50 degrees, I'd get a heavy duty one. Little Big Foot makes one for camping and such http://www.littlebigfoot.com/. They're kind of spendy, but I've heard well worth it! Besides, what's $50-80 for a blanket that will keep your toddler cozy for years!! I think you can use it with just a T-shirt when it's reasonably warm, or with warm jammies underneath if it's real cold. Also, you may be able to get one used on ebay for less. Sleepsacks are great!! Really warm, no risk of suffocation. I use no pillow with my little guy.
