Keeping Mosquitoes at Bay

Does anyone have a good way of keeping the bugs at bay when outside? My husband and daughter don't seem to be bothered at all but my son and myself are like magnets. Even if I use a spray I still get bitten and I prefer not to use them on the kids. Thanks for your help. I'd like to enjoy the backyard in the evening.

What can I do next?

Sent my kid off to girl scout camp after drying her sheets and clothes in bounce. I put a couple of sheets in her duffle bag too. The other kids got eaten up. Mine did not.

Also, I'm told if you take B-12, it repels mosquitoes.

And, I use Avon Skin so soft to repel them.

A.-I won't bore you with everything the experts tell us--I am eaten up as well. There is always the 'world re-nowned' Avon Skin So Soft if you can stand the residue and if you like the smell. If you want to be a little less fragrant to the human polulation, try a dryer sheet. An Army Sp. Forces Ranger taught me this. Take an unused dryer sheet and rub it on your body. Then, stick it in your back pocket. You should find that you have created your own mosquito free zone. Don't know it matters if they are scented or not-we used some walmart brand lavender/something or other scented ones when we were on the kids field trip cuz' thats what i had brought to freshen up the smell of the cabin. (scattered them everywhere!) I use bounce (i think they are fragrance free) at home and they seem to work too. Oh, one other thing--I'm told that if you eat alot of bananas it attracts mosquitos. (I don't eat em and i still get bit, so. . . )

Hi!
I too get bitten quite a bit as well as my kids. I know that your diet can effect mosquitos being attracted to you. Google that info to see which foods they are most attracted to and then you might want to change what you eat during the summer months. I also use a dryer sheet (fabric sheet for clothes). You can rub this on your kids and I also attach it to the back of their clothes. I know it sounds crazy, but I was told to do this by someone and it truly helps for whatever reason! I do use the spray some also, but I use the sprays that contain Picaridin (sp?). It works well and does not contain deet.
Hope this helps!
K.

I haven't tried it, but have heard that listerine (sprayed on like a bug spray) works. It seemed to help my sister-in-law who's a magnet for them.

There are several pest control companies that provide mosquito relief. They spray monthly for the mosquito season. It worked really well at my daughter's home day care. Comparison shop though because there are big differences in prices with the pest control companies.

I find that coppertone bug and sun works well for our family. I am interested in trying some of the alternatives listed though.
