i am looking for a playgroup or moms to make play dates with who live in the katy area. I'm a 1st time mom to an 8 month old baby girl. are there any playgroups in my area already? I would love to meet other moms who have babies around the same age as mine :)
Perhaps you should look into a MOPs (Mothers of Preschoolers)group. I attend with a great group of ladies. You would get to meet other moms while your daughter played with other children and we often do have outside playdates.I love it, it is something just for me (which I don't get much of) and something my kids can enjoy. You may want to check out Momsclub.org. They can point you in the direction of a moms club that is right in your area.

I am a member of the Katy Lil' Patooties. It is a very large group of moms and kids in the Katy area. You can request membership here: http://sahm.meetup.com/1648/ and then join a subgroup appropriate to your daughter's age (there is a subgroup for the little bitties). My kids and I have made some great friends and the message board has been a lifesaver for me! I hope this helps!

Check out Moxie Moms.....They are a group in Katy and when you are a part of the group, you get a card for discounts on a lot of products and services around Katy. A two for one!!

Gymboree is the only thing I can think of. I do no that in our neighborhood newsletter there is alway different things to attend with your baby. Alot of mom groups and such.
Check your local Library. We go to a Sing-a-long and story time twice a week at two different libraries. You will meet a lot of other moms with children your childs age, and be able to find out about other activities. Plus the library activiteis are always free.
