Aside from see the doctor, keep her out of wet bathing suits when she is not actively in the water. Also, some desitin or Other zinc cream will help.
My 5 year old daughter has vaginitis, which is inflammation in/around the vagina. Any suggestions as to how I might 1) alleviate itching symptoms and 2) get rid of it??? Many thanks! M.
Just an FYI - I have taken her to the doctor twice and it is not a yeast or bacterial infection; simply an irritation that should go away with aquaphor and benadryl. THese suggestions haven't helped, so I thought I's turn to Mamapedia. The area is very red and itchy - we don't use bubble bath, always dry off right away after swimming, and I'm increasing her H2O intake.

6Take her to the doctor. They will prescribe medication based on the diagnosis.
I would make sure she knows how to wipe throughly, and then give her lower body "air time" by letting her sleep and/or hang out at home in a long oversize t shirt or cotton nightgown.
I also would make sure her clothes and towels (especially underwear) are washed in plain unscented detergent, no fabric softener or fabric sheets.
ETA: You can also try the generic 'benedryl' from Walgreens, it is just the drug used in Benedryl and water with a little alcohol. Worked great when I got a chigger bite in my armpit and the Benedryl cream seemed to make it worse.
Don't use any bubble bath and try putting a cup of plain yogurt into her bath water - it's very soothing to the skin.
Be sure it's not a yeast infection or some sort of fungus (jock itch).
Is it possible she's getting dehydrated (which makes her pee really acid)?
Have her drink plenty of water.
B has some good ideas.. I would also add.. don't get her bath/shower water too warm (that will dry out the skin) also... choose cotton clothing instead of synthetic.. and be careful what detergents you use in the wash and or on the skin.. Lastly, drinking lots of water not only help to lessen the acid in the urine BUT it helps to cleans her digestive tract which is where yeast grows and in turn , can cause some vaginitis.. I think if you read up more on this , you ll find that foods such as high sugar (could even be too much sweet fruit) and other things like white flour, vinegar or pickled foods can cause yeast to grow and hence, the vaginitis to ignite...
Don't let her sit in water when she takes a bath. Only let the water run without filling up the tub or have her take showers. Have her wear loose clothing and cotton underwear. If it doesn't go away within 5 days, take her back to Dr.
My daughter had alot of those issues as well. Her doctors (ped, allergist, derm) all suggested one simple thing.
A baking soda bath.
she takes one even to this day every couple of weeks. sprinkle baking soda in tub and she swishes around. does wonders.
Also she only wears cotton panties and even some nights sleeps with no panties on.
Many blessings and good luck
So your daughter has a yeast infection that you apparently diagnosed online and you want to know how to git rid of it? Make the poor baby a doctor's appointment!
One of my daughters had this as well at about that age. At this age she was wiping herself and perhaps not doing such a good job at it. We had her use a peri-bottle with just lukewarm water to rinse after going to the bathroom at home and taught her to wipe front to back.
Also the toilet paper at school was very rough so I taught her to put a few tissues in her pocket.
Has she been biking a lot? Swimming and keeping a wet bathing suit on?
I would have her wear a dress and loose underwear (a size too big perhaps) for a week and see if it improves.
I am surprised the doctor did not give you instructions
