So our weather is really getting colder. I'd have to say today was our first hard frost so it was definitely cold last night. Our neighbor kept his (attached) garage door opened last night. and this isn't a first. We keep our thermostat set at 68 and I keep the blinds closed to try to keep the heat in but it is still cold in here. I could not imagine keeping my garage door wide open. So WTH? BTW he is not old or senile. Am I just cold blooded or what the heck am I doing wrong LOL?!
I probably should have used the word 'integral' rather than 'attached' garage.
Why would you think that you're doing something wrong when the neighbor leaves his garage door open. You know that closing the door helps to keep cold out of the house. You are energy conscious. I would stop being concerned about what your neighbor does. It doesn't matter why he does it. It's his problem.
Does his garage door freeze shut? Was he distracted? Who knows....
My friend got a phone call from the local police at 3:00 this morning because she had left her garage door open. The police wanted to make sure my friend knew that she had left the garage door open (she forgot to close it) and to make sure she was okay.
I'd be concerned more about the occupant's safety than their heating bill. But Hazel is right. Maybe there is something wrong with his garage door.
Are you saying he left the car entry door to the garage open, or did he leave the HOUSE door open?
Personally, I close both! I just am not clear what he actually left open. I'd be surprised to know anyone in America still sleeps with the door to their HOME open all night. But lots of people don't bother to close garages... I think it provides additional insulation to whatever rooms are on the other side of it's walls.... but, some guys just don't care about things like that.
When I see our neighbor's garage doors open later in the evening I call or text them--usually, it's an accident!
Well, the doors that houses have to garages are the same as doors to the direct outside, so, frankly, I don't see a big deal about it! For example, I mean, there aren't garages that are attached to my sliding glass doors that go to our backyard in or basement, neither is there a garage attached to my front door and so on. I guess just closing the garage door isn't something he's worried about. OR maybe he's just trying to air it out. A garage is the same as a carport, except there's a garage door and an additional wall or two. I'm sure it could help SOMEWHAT with the cold to close it, but I don't think it is a big enough difference...
