Happy Halloween everyone!

I HATE it when people leave their porch light on on Halloween night and then NEVER come to the door. It happens at least 10 times every year to us.

******lol bug, i've seen that happen a lot also

What can I do next?

I don't like when they come late. Sometimes older kids come around after like 8 o'clock. By that time I have had enough. You would think that by now people would have some understanding of how this works. When to leave the light on and to stay away when it is off.

oh it makes me nuts too!

Today our police force is going around to registered child sex offenders and reminding them that they had better have their light off and stay away from kids.

We have two people in our neighborhood who keep their porch lights on as well and complained about the knocks...so we told them last year - it is etiquette or polite - to turn your porch light off and no one will come to your door...you would think that more people would know this!!

I agree!!! Turn it off!! Ours is motion sensored - so we'll have to make sure to turn ours off too when our candy is out. Even though force of habit is to leave it on.

And I saw that on the local news, Cheryl! YAY!!!

Some people just go out and leave it on for themselves and forget or don't know what it's supposed to mean to trick or treaters.

That and the ones who leave their light on and then are irritated when you ring the door bell and they have no candy to give out.

I respect they don't want to hand out candy, but on Halloween, please follow the etiquette and shut the lights off!

Bug, I'm sorry they do this to you!

Maybe their doorbell doesn't work. Please don't visit houses without any halloween decorations and please don't visit after 8pm:)

I was taught as a kid, and taught my children too, that if a porch light is on, it's okay. If not....don't bother. UNLESS they have other lights and pumpkins and it's obvious they've decorated for trick or treaters.

I think some people leave their porch lights on because they are worried about people pulling pranks, etc and with so many people walking around, they don't want it to look like no one is home. Keep in mind that elderly people might be afraid to have a dark porch and also might be afraid to answer the door. I work with elderly people and we just had a safety training meeting about home security for senior citizens.

If a porch light is on and there are no decorations, etc, we just go to the next house.

Try not to let it bug you.
People are either into Halloween or they aren't and that's okay.

Have fun! Be safe.

We only had one house that had the light on and no one home. I thought that was really good.

I'm sorry, but if the porch light is on, whether the house is decorated for Hween or not, my kids WILL ring the door bell! If your porch light is set on some auto on or something, then just unscrew the light for the night if you are not handing out candy. Everyone KNOWS that that is the OK for you to ring the bell. But we hate it too if they aren't home so I agree with you. =)

What? Don't visit houses that aren't decorated for halloween?

So if I want to participate, I don't just have to spend money on the candy but on decorations as well?

Sorry. That doesn't cut it. Put up a sign if you can't turn your light off. Cover your doorbell with a note. Something. Light on on 10/31 (or your trick or treating night) means "come beg me for candy!!!" decorations or not.

I hate when I sit there with the light off--don't like that at night in my dark circle--and the doorbell rings all evening.

My porch light stays on because the outlet that goes to everything in my living room is controlled by the same switch that turns the porch light off. No, I cannot plug anything into any other outlet as that is the only one I have. I don't hand out candy and I'm not decorated for tot-ing either.
