Hi, I was wanting to take my boys, 6 and 3 to see this movie with one of their friends. Their friends mom has said that this is a great movie. I know that it is rated PG and it looks cute....but I wanted to know if any of you have seen it and what you think.

Is there anything that I may need to discuss with my children or is an of the material inappropriate for small kids?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So we went and saw the movie today. Dad had come home from a 36 hour shift at the hospital and I knew that if we left, he would be able to sleep.

Thank you so much for your advice. The movie was great for my boys. The only people in attendance were parent/grandparents with kids similar in ages to my boys. There were some startling parts, but nothing ugly or dark. It was perfect for my kids. There were a couple times that I asked them if they were scared and they just said that it was really cool. So six thumbs up on this one.

I have not seen the movie yet, (although it look fun!) but I did want to give you kudos for taking the time to research a movie before taking your children to it. IMHO, not enough parents do this anymore and it's really refreshing to hear from a mom who cares this much!!!

I took my 6 and 11 yr old to see this movie and they both loved it! Depending on the disposition of your 3 yr old some parts may be a little scary, but I teach 3 to 4 yr olds and I think 95% of them would love this movie. The ones who I think would find this scary also thought parts of The Little Mermaid was scary though. We found it to be a fun movie and really enjoyed going together to watch it, we try to have a movie once a month and make it a whole day of fun.

You can find good movie ratings and descriptions on line. I would give that a try. The Mpls Star Tribune on Fridays also has a section where they specifically discuss the family-appropriateness of movies. You might be able to access that on line too. We haven't seen it, but my 8 year old thought it looked "scary" based on the previews he saw.

Hi J.. I took my ten year old to see this movie on our last mother-daughter and wished I had taken my three year old along with us! It's a little corny for adults but for kids I think it's a great movie. There are a couple parts that are a little startling (not really scary, it's more to do with the 3D effects than the content itself).

J.,

Whenever I want to get a great parental review on a movie, I go to www.screenit.com . You can scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on "no thanks" and then it is totally FREE or purchase a membership and avoid advertisements.

Anyway, they tell you anything and everything in a movie that could pose a problem, from language to scary music to imitative behavior to revealing clothing to suggestive material. Their attention to detail amazes me. They never say whether to take your kid, just give every detail and let you decide. They also give a rating and an overview including subjects to discuss with your children in advance. I usually agree with what they said after seeing the film.

Screenit also reviews DVDs and music, if you have any concerns about those. We even use this website when my husband and I go out to a movie, because who wants to pay to sit for two hours and watch garbage? Not me.

Good luck,
S.
