Cranky over here because DH family starts their events so early! Thanksgiving was at 1 p.m. same with Christmas Day. They are all early birds and I usually opt out of eating because I am just not hungry that early! This is good because I can manage DD while everyone else chows..so what time do you all start?

What can I do next?

For whoever is hosting, the earlier the better for them. I like to start early too
because I do not cherish cleaning up at midnight!! If the time is not right
for you, why don't you host the holidays and then you can call the shots
regarding time.

We gather around 1 or 2 for appetizers with dinner around 4.

I wonder why you're feeling cranky. You're a guest. You don't have to eat, as you've indicated that you don't. Find your spirit of Christmas. This is a time to share love with family and friends. That rules out cranky.

You do have control over how you feel. You can decide to enjoy your time with family.

I like to spend the day preparing and we usually eat around 4 or so.

I enjoy getting up and prepping all the goodies for the meal. Today we are having cornish hens and tomorrow Prime Rib.

We are fortunate because it is just us and we do what we want to do. We don't have inlaws, etc to deal with. We see extended family at other times of the year. Our priority has always been our family at home. Others are welcome to come visit if they like.

we are doing my mom's tonight at 5 because she asked us all to go to 10pm candle light service with her at church after. LATE NIGHT, yikes! tomorrow at my aunt's is 3pm.

i prefer later, not because i'm not hungry, (i can always skip breakfast! :) but because the little ones need to get a nap in especially on such busy days. now that they are older (both my son and my neice are 5) it's not as big of a deal but it still helps to have a quiet day before the partying starts.

My parents always started at 1 so the grandparents can get home before dark. I've never had a problem being hungry by then! Just skip breakfast, or eat a very small breakfast. Also, make sure you don't eat very much the night before. And if you just can't manage it, then make yourself a plate that you can enjoy later. Now my family isn't able to join everyone for holidays because of distance, so we start at 4 so it's not too different from the kids' normal dinner time. Merry Christmas!

When we had our huge family gatherings we would get together at 4pm
on Christmase Eve, then spend Christmas Day w/our own families.
Now that it's just us, we do or own thing all day, open presents at night, see what Santa brought the next day,

We don't really do something special for Christmas Eve. My inlaws usually show up around noon (they travel from NC) and we go out to lunch, run errands and hang out, and have a normal dinner that night. Christmas Day, they arrive from their hotel around 11 a.m. and we have dinner between 5:00 and 6:00.

Our christmas starts with dinner at 4:30/5pm on christmas eve. Then chrismas morning around 6 or 7 am (if they can make it that long) to open gifts together and then we eat breakfast. Everything is over by 11am!~ The rest of the day we play with the toys, relax and usually watch a movie in the evening.
