What made me happy.....seeing my husbands car pull into the grocery store parking lot. I was stuck there with 6 kids, loads of groceries and a minivan that wouldnt start. When i saw him i knew everything would be fine :)
I had to drag all 3 kids on a mazillion errands today... they were decent helpers (by that I mean the baby didn't have a meltdown!)... At the pharmacy, as I was paying, there was an older, heavyset woman with crutches struggling with the (not automatic) door. I said 'hey ladies, go hold the door for that lady'... they did, then kind of ran off for a minute. The woman kind of hollered a 'thank you' and figured the kids went back to their parent (didn't know it was me). We then went to the grocery store next door. Sure enough, as I'm paying, the same woman was on her way in. She came over and said 'you're the mom! Great job on those kids! That was so sweet of them'... the girls beamed with pride (okay, I did too!!)... Just made me feel good.
So what made YOU happy today?
I'm SO glad I asked this question!! Thank you all SO MUCH for sharing. Every single response multiplied my happiness x10 :)

It was my birthday today! I took most of the day off, so spent a lot of time with my son, playing with water guns at the backyard. The weather was beautiful! The only thing is, my husband came home later than he said he would (which kind of pi$$ed me off) but flowers and the cake were great :-) And the kiss and "happy birthday" from my 3 yo son really made my day ;-)))
My kids made it all the way home from camp in the car without arguing. Somewhere hell must be freezing over, but I'll take it!
We had a power outage last night and the a/c was off and the fans were off. My wife is hot and got hot, so she slept nude with no covers/sheets.
I love a room with a view. 8~)).
Good luck to you and yours.
When my two little boys called me at work this am on cloud nine about how much fun they had sleeping in the yard (in a tent) with Daddy last night!!
It's yet another reminder of me how blessed I am to have such a wonderful husband and what an amazing father he is!
Oh, and I dropped my cell phone in our work parking garage and someone kindly turned it in to security and he searched through my contacts and called my hubby to let him know my phone had been found!!
my husband called me today at work. he didn't need anything. he just called to talk to me. that made me happy.
Despite my 4 year old hurting both of her kids today, my new mom-friend asked if we'd like to get together again tomorrow. Sigh of relief--I think she knows how desperately I need a friend and we are both from out of town.
What a great day, and a proud mommy moment for you :)
I had a great interview this morning, pretty sure I nailed it! That made me pretty happy. And when I get home my son's face lit up he was so happy to see me lol. Think he missed me. Now he just got done helping me do laundry. So far its been a good day.
Hasn't happened yet but I figuring going home will. :p It has every other day.
I have also spent waaayyyy too much time looking at my wedding pictures. :) Two days till honeymoon, now that will make me really happy!!!
Waking up to baby kisses from my 7 month old - mouth wide open and tongue out :o)
ice cream sundaes
We were in all the little antique stores downtown and finished with ice cream sundaes. Not a nasty gripe from any of my "peeps". Daddy promised ice cream if the little man was good. At times I am all about bribes. :o)
Sending my hubby lunch! I called and ordered pizza for his office. The thank you was nice and the thank you tonight will be even better! ;)
I had to leave in the middle of the night to work with one of my sales reps in Palm Springs this morning. My awesome, fantastic daughter sent me a text to let me know what she had done around the house before she went to work (she's 18). So much more than I ever expected!! Lucky me :)
Good for you!! And yay for the kids!!! Today what made me happy was having longer than a 5 minute conversation with my husband. With his commute and his softball games, I feel like I only get to talk to him for 2 mintues a day...and then I get feeling disconnected which leads to all sorts of issues. So that made me happy today :).
Yay for awesome parenting!! For me, today was great because I got a 101 out of 100 on a test :D YAY for bonus questions!!
My new cloth diapers came! YAY! They are in the wash and almost ready to try :D
And I love/hate it that my son who is 20 months says. "mom. Mom. Moom. Mom. Mom." He'll even do it in his sleep and it's so adorable! I love it but I admit it does get annoying. But I still love it 90% of the time.
The two humming birds that visited while my daughter and I were eating breakfast. Just to see them flit around makes her smile.
I took three kids to the pool after work. They were all (almost) perfect! I wore my new Lands End swimsuit which sucked me in, pushed me up, and kept me nice and secure. That was great! Then, after some upsetting and hurtful news regarding my father who died recently (someone in the community made public comment against my father, using the words of my eulogy (about him bucking authority) for him against him), speaking to my mother who let it all wash off her back. My mother's words made me happy again. Oh, and my husband (who is a pastrycook) invented a new self-saucing chocolate ganache pudding, which I had to taste-test. Happiness on a spoon!
Great story! I love when I see my kids and my husband do nice things like that. Warms my soul.
I got to have lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in months and catch up.
I also helped someone get a job today who needed one badly.
I loved reading all of these responses! Great question.
That's awesome! We work so hard on our kids manners and love when people notice.
Today I am happy for my loving/caring/understanding friends who are helping me deal with some family that is not treating me well.
I was at school all day (I'm a teacher, off for the summer) at a workshop and my kids were upset I was gone. My oldest got to go to camp, but my little one was with a great babysitter. When I got home, she was resting/half asleep and I woke her up all the way. When she saw it was me standing over her, the smile on her face was worth a gajillion bucks, the kind I'll take out and think of repeatedly over the next 50 years! Just awesome. I'd pay my life savings for more of that!
Husband came back from his business trip....that's always nice! :)
That my oldest didn't fight his nap and slept over 2 hours! (So did the baby, but he always does!) That's what I'm talking about!
Hmmm...I started a 5K training program (again - it's like the 3rd time through for me lol - I'm doing a triathlon and still can't run!) this morning. It was 80 degrees when I went out and I did it anyway, so that was a great way to start the day.
My oldest son mowed a friend's lawn today for the 2nd time. They hired him last week and he actually does a good job. Gives me hope that he'll be a productive member of society someday, and it warms my heart that they like him enough that he was their first choice for the job.
My youngest son learned to dive and swim to the bottom of the deep end of pool today (he's 5) and the big kids were genuinely proud of him. They rarely cheer each other on and it's so nice when they do.
I have acupuncture in an hour - woo hoo!
Today has been a good day - thanks for asking the question and giving me a chance to think of my blessings and read about everyone else's!
At 7am this morning the paramedics called saying they were down the street with my teenage son - he'd hit a pedestrian and had hit his head and could we come. I stayed home with the little one while my hubby raced to the scene. I paced & paced for 20 minutes waiting to hear how he was and if they were taking him to which hospital, etc. When my hubby pulled in the driveway and my son got out and walked up the driveway, it was TOTAL relief and I WAS SO HAPPY!!!!! I ran out and hugged him in the entryway :)
He had a lot of cuts & scrapes & bruises, and need 3 stitches in his forehead, but he's fine. Although as I'm typing this, he says his whole body hurts! Wait until tomorrow son!!!
My hubby came home for lunch (he never does) and helped me bring in a bookcase that was in my van. I'm happy that I can put some things in it and finally get our bedroom organized!
We are in the middle of a short sale on our home. The house we will be renting is an adorable lakehouse and my husband is trying to do everything to make us girls (me & my 2 daughers 7 & 13) happy. He is not a big fan of any of the antiquish looking shower heads & stuff but I fell in love w/one and while at Lowes today he saw the exact same one on clearance and called me to see if I would still like that ugly showerhead! It really goes w/the rest of how we're redoing the bathroom and I truly think he's the best for giving in and buying me that. It really means a lot!
Well, this happened a couple months ago but I still appreciate it all the same. We were at my sister's church for my niece's confirmation and it was a very long service. My boys (ages 3 and 4) were SO well behaved and did not complain once. As the service was ending, an older couple behind us said, "What a beautiful family. You boys were so good! And what great parents you must be! Great job!"
That just made my day and it made me feel like I am actually doing something right!
Great question!
I put together my first Lego 'thingy' without slitting my wrists midway thru it.
I will be gluing most of it together once he falls asleep. :)
Good for you. I strongly feel we should all do small acts of kindness towards throughout the day. It makes the world a kinder place. God bless you.
Today I cleaned our bedroom closet. My husband keeps it rather messy. Then I worked on the endless laundry, put the clean sheets on.dusted then vaccumed. I enjoy a clean house..
Oh that made me smile! Nothing like a small gesture like that to make you feel like you're doing an amazing job of mothering your children!
One GREAT thing about today is that my hubby is off work on Thursdays, so it's always a good day when he's around to play with us! He always gives me the chance to rest (I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant), and the kids love playing with him. I just sit like a bump on a log on the sofa all day right now, haha!
Another great thing was that we are planning my son's 5th birthday party for this weekend, and he is SO excited! We passed out the invitations to his friends here in our housing complex and he was just beaming. So sweet!
My husband allowed me to have my last free day before going back to work from maternity leave.
I went to the gym, the doctor, got a pedicure, got my hair cut and went a little shopping. AND he made me the best dinner ever: enchiladas.
Sweet! That's good. Today's been a pretty good day. But right now I'm happily watching the boys chase each other around and around the couch. Number 1, I love the giant smiles and squeals of glee....number 2, I know it will tire them out and they'll get to sleep easily tonight. Mwahaha
OK, you posted this yesterday so I'll give you the answer that I would have given yesterday as it's still early today. The 1 thing that made me proud yesterday was after a very large argument between Mike, Hailey & I, Hailey took some time & then as we sat down to eat dinner, gave a genuine apology to her brother without being prompted to do so (who was not entirely gracious, but we'll work on that). All-in-all, it was a fairly crappy day aside from the good apology & the most excellent Thai take-out I had for lunch. Ha!
Getting all that dang wallpaper off made me very happy. Only took my entire afternoon to remove ONE pink, sparkly rocking horse border. Oh, and yeah, closing on our new house made me VERY happy today!
Today I made beach plans for the weekend. That made me happy.
That the little brat that I watch for 1 hour a day in the afternoon went home. That one hour feels like 5. I will have to fix that and fast. I'm not too crazy about his father but when I see him pull in the driveway I am excited!
He doesn't throw his juice box in the garbage, he throws it on my livingroom floor, he throws my 3 yr olds toys everywhere, he dumps his snacks on the floor. This kid is almost 7, he should know better. I will have to have a talk with his mom. I am not tolerating this any longer and it has only been 3 days! Even my daughter told him to throw it in the garbage. What did I get myself into? LOL!! Just happy he went home!
My girls are both on the swim team. It wasn't today, but the other day my 9 year old said to my 7 year old, "You know, your freestyle is really improving! You can go pretty fast now." Her compliment came out of the blue and it absolutely made my day to have heard it.
Seeing the guts ripped out of California Adventure turnstiles that had been on the blitz for awhile, that made me happy. It also made me happy that no one asked me today "Why do we need handstamps?" My coworkers were all in good moods, my kids didn't get into any yelling matches, and the day was nice and cool. It was a lovely day and evening. I needed it.
That my son slept in until almost 9 after getting up at 6:30 all week! Woo hoooooo! I feel like a new woman! =)
