So reading about Jo putting in the new toliet inspired me to try again to do something around the house that I wouldn't normally do, something that the hubby would do, but knowing how busy he is and how long I have been waiting for him to do it I will TRY myself today. I am going to try to take down my son's bed frame and put up a new one, (we had one of the cribs that turn into toddler bed then full twin, never could get right size frame tried different ones, long story short messed up headboard, ect, its a mess) So I am going to attempt to take it down and possibly put up new one minus the headboard/footboard! Usually everything I do of this nature turns into a mess! Planting flowers I broke a pipe, trying to fix washing machine I made worse (doing laundry by hand today, while I wait for new part, FUN, NOT!!) lol so get the picture? Do you ever try to fix things or beautify and end up making a bigger mess??PLEASE tell me I am not the only one who does this!! :) Wish me luck, have my tools and off I go! (Thank God I have a patient husband who never gets mad at me when he has to fix something I made worse, or at least if he does get mad, he never lets on! :))
I'm the one that fixes things around my house, always have been, and am usually pretty good at it.
Years ago, I tried to do a tuneup on my old truck, gapped the new spark plugs wrong, messed up the distributor, and had to have a mechanic do it over.

Well if anything you have to make him feel useful. :)
Is the headboard/footboard truly messed up or just a mess? I wish you lived closer..... I ask because you could just make a frame. I am going on the assumption that you have a head and footboard and then rails connecting them? Can that still be put together? How solid are the side rails? See if you can make that solid, instead of a frame you cut and fasten 1 x 2s the width between the side rails to support the mattress. :)
There is only one person who is better at rigging stuff than I am and that is my husband. A part of me died when I realized the kids were going to him to get things fixed but then I realized that frees me up to get into other stuff. :)
That and sometimes he just isn't home, then they are stuck with me.
I had to do a similar thing to our king sized bed because the frame that came with it sucked. I took the frame apart and using bolts and such made it one solid unit.
Oh, I just thought of funny story you may like. Okay so I replaced the diverter on the master shower. I put it in upside down so now hot is cold, cold is hot, drove me nuts for a week. So I think I am going to get in the shower anyway so I will flip it without turning the water off. After all I am getting in the shower so if I get a little wet so what. You do get my clothes were off, right? Well apparently we have better water pressure than I anticipated so the diverter blew out, water shooting straight out, I am completely naked running to the basement to shut the water off as Troy gets home.
Like to set the stage he walks in the front door which has a clear shot of me hitting the top of the steps going down. Of course I fall down the steps, yell in a minute, run to shut the water off.
I get upstairs, he is still standing in the foyer apparently laughing at this point. I flip him off and run down the hall to put the diverter back in.
He is still laughing at this point. :(
It really wasn't me destroying anything but my knee because I did shut the shower door so the water was contained, but that was probably my worst case of poor judgement.

Ah, our friend Jo IS very inspiring, I agree (though sometimes she gets me in trouble)!
One word of advice, maybe try to put the NEW bed together BEFORE dismantling the OLD bed?!

I for the life of me just wait, wait, wait for him to do it...
1. Because I know he actually loves fixing things and tinkering.
2. Because I'm lazy...and I just don't want to do it.
But today, i just might see about taking the shower part he bought 6 months ago and fixing the shower so that the sprayer can actually hang in the right spot and the kids don't have to have it dangle!
I'm sure I'll mess it up and make it worse...

Being perpetually single I had to learn to fix things.
PVC pipes under the kitchen sink leaking - can fix it
Refinishing furniture - yep
Basic lawn mower repair - yep, but I found a really cheap place to do it for me now.
Replacing faulty parts in the water heater - done it.
Oh, and once, I replaced the outside breaker to the main box on the house. Yeah, I will never do that again - turns out one wrong move would have literally killed me. Ah, ignorance was bliss.
My next adventures in home repair will be replacing the light fixture in the bathroom and learning how to replace small window panes.
Thanks Lowe's for all their instructions. I literally go in with pictures and ask "how do I fix this".

I am actually the one that fixes most things--until it gets to a point that I totally refuse to. I need to take my kids bunkbed apart and fix it becauase my son and his cousin were climbing up and down the other night and making it move so much the "headboard" of the bottom bunk loosened. It has to be taken all apart.
I plan to make a bench for the back yard next month.
Just take your time and watch what your doing. And if you do make a mistake, tell him you thought he would like something to do. :) Good luck.

Good luck. Cute post. Just so ya know, you go through the same company (if it's a Bella Italia (or whoever), go through them....if you got it at Babies R Us they'll take care of it for you) to get the specific rails for that specific crib / bed. However, if you choose to go without the headboard/footboard and just do the basic frame, you can do it. Not too close to the wall. :)
Yes, I've made a couple messes. Most of my messes have been things like "let me completely clean out, rennovate, and redecorate....TODAY" and it just becomes a giant mess without a plan, and I get tired or overwhelmed and then the mess lasts there a couple weeks before I tackle it again. (yipes!) I've gotten better though. I now go through one single little thing at a time, make sure I have a plan for where this goes before emptying everything at once.
A couple weeks ago I went to Lowes all by myself, found out what was wrong with my lawn (a death patch kept growing! turns out it was a fungus), I got a couple bags to fix that problem AND a bag of fertilizer, mowed the lawn, borrowed a pushy thing that scatters stuff from a neighbor, and laid down the fungus stuff and fertilizer, then watered it. All by myself! I even read the thing on the side of the house to figure out how to turn on my front sprinklers! I was very proud, lol. And the patch is already growing in new green. May your endeavor bring you pride, happiness, and a useful working bed. :)

LOL, no but I'm pretty handy. Just keep trying and check YouTube for help. There's help video for everything. It's really nice that you are doing stuff to help reduce the nagging on your husband and I'm sure he appreciates it. If anything, it may give him something to smile about when he comes home to a new adventure. =)
