Jff: Have You Ever Tried Sell Something for Higher than Original Asking Price?

Ok moms, I am new to Ebay but I have a question. Do any of you "watch" stuff and then notice when you come back a time later, the price is more? Now I'm not talking about bidded on items, I'm talking about the asking price was dramatically changed by the lister. For example, I was "watching" a pretty cheap piece that still has several days until the bids end. So far no one has bid on it. Today, I go back to my watched items and I notice that this item that was once listed for X is now three more times expensive with more in fees for shipping. This was not a different piece. I went ahead and un-watched it because it shocked me. Have you ever changed the price for more on something that you originally had listed for far less? Why? I know it's the sellers prerogative, but just wanted thoughts. Thanks.

If I change the price on an item I'm selling on ebay? It's usually to change to a Buy It Now price from auction.

It's possible the person did some research and found the item is more valuable than originally thought. Do an advanced search and find out if there are similar pieces being sold or that have sold (completed listings).

The seller will get dinged by ebay from having excessive shipping fees. You can call the seller on that.

I was actually surprised last month when I listed my boys old handheld game - a Pokemon Nintendo Gameboy sold in less than 5 minutes after listing it for $50 plus shipping. That was a first for me.

Why not send the seller a message and ask why the change? I would. Especially if it doesn't sell.

Hope that helps!!

Many times I have posted an item (on a local sales site) and had so many immediate replies it led me to believe that I had underpriced the item. Although I have never raised the price, I have considered it. Especially when I see that the person who purchased the item and turned around and sold it for double what they paid me!

I'm not experienced w Ebay but isn't there some consumer principal that says people assume quality by looking at the price lol I am not experienced with economics either,

but you said no one had bid so it would seem there was no interest

so like for example. if I were looking on say craigs list for a couch, and most of them are listing around a $100 I might think one was a steal at $80 but if I see one for $8 im going to assume someone died on it or it's infested with roaches and not Worth the hassel, because why would it be so cheap? unless something was wrong with it. so I won't even bid or show interest. Im not sure if that example would translate to ebay were people seem to have higher quality stuff and I don't know if it translates to a item that is easily cleaned or what ever.

so I don't know maybe there is a better explaiations just thought I would throw that one out there.

Yes. A friend of mine had a bracelet listed for about 1/3 of what it's worth. She needed fast cash for a bill. A guy kept messaging her and telling her he'd give her a hundred for it. She said no, it's listed for much less than it's worth. He said a lot of mean stuff to her through out the listing. She finally put the bracelet up to $999 so he'd stop harassing her. She didn't sell it of course but ebay doesn't like it when you have stuff listed then take it off. That could mean you're selling under the counter so ebay doesn't handle the sale and get their cut.

So people do raise their prices to get rid of harassing individuals that are annoying them.

I personally have never done this, but I can imagine that if I realized I put the incorrect price on an item, I would go back and correct it, or as other moms said, maybe the person realized so many people were showing interest, it may be under priced.

I am having a Garage Sale next weekend and have already told my husband I am trying to get rid of things, so he needs to leave my prices alone. So I am pricing this at 90% of the original price, unless it was never used or only used once or twice. And I will negotiate, the more the person purchases. I am taking all of my left over items and donating them.. The less I have to haul, the better it will be for me.

I also always argue with him about pricing his items. He is an "overseller" he drives people crazy because he will sell, sell , sell the item to death before he pronounces some ridiculous price. I tell him, Place an actual price on the item and then go down if no one is looking at it, or walking away at your prices. ARRRRGHHH! Drives me crazy..

I have relisted an item that did not sell with a higher initial bid (auction) and had it sell for much more than that (even though it did not sell with a low initial bid price). Weird, huh? I have only changed shipping if I went and weighed an item I had estimate and found it needed to ship priority rather than first class.

I don't really "do" eBay (does that make me behind the times... I guess so).
Anyway, I always understood that if there weren't bids or you didn't like the bids, you could change the way it was listed from bids to a flat price. Maybe that is what happened with the item you were watching. Did you notice if the prices was a flat non-bidding price now?
