**First, a shout-out to all of you who provided encouragement and advice regarding giving my cat subcutaneous fluids at home. I know it doesn't pertain to this post, but just want to say thanks. The vet tech taught me how to do it yesterday. Nice to learn a new skill. Extra thanks to Dana K from Pittsburgh for the additional support and AriaMom for the video tutorial, which made me think I could do it in the first place. :)**

Okay, because we need a little funny this morning:

To the chagrin of many, I hear kids singing the "Gagnam Style" song here and there. My nearly six year old son came home with his own version, which he heard from another kindergarten friend;

"Op! Op! GO GO GUMPIN' STYLE!"

I now have to chuckle at the thought of Tom Hanks saying "Uh, hey, sexy lady..." in his Forrest Gump voice. Because that's what I was left with after hearing my son. I'm just thankful my son hasn't learned *that* part.

Any other funny mistakes from someone in your life?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The "Bowl Fighter" is hysterical! and Hey Sexy Ladle! Ha!
Oh, Peg, that is the funniest thing! I miss you! :)
Shane, I love it. I think guys really have to have things spelled out for them sometimes.

thanks to everyone for the silly stories. I think it's very easy to hear things incorrectly as a kid. When I was 8 I had a transistor radio, which played a hit Jimmy Buffet tune. It took me years to understand the lyrics to "Volcano" correctly-- I kept thinking he was saying "I don't know where I'mma gonna go when I'm locked in a room" (instead of 'when the volcano blows'). A Conundrum-- where would he go?-- for years.

It's a little old school, but my little sister used to get the lyrics to Rock me Amedeus wrong. She swore that he was singing, "I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish. Eat me I'm a Danish."

And she also got the Depeche Mode song "Just Can't Get Enough" wrong. She thought they were singing, "I just can't get it up." She was too young to understand why that mix up was so funny.

I had to correct my daughter when she was convinced the song went "Op Op Op Op Open Condom Style"!

That's NOT a style I'd like her to know about for many more years.

These are from my childhood....I remember being slightly confused but worked it out in my mind.

"Our Father who aret in heaven. How do you know my name?"

"One Nation, Under God, Invisible, For Liberty......"

The first one I thought was somewhat of a rhetorical question. The second, I thought God made us invisible to our enemies.

That is funny! Especially the thought of Tom Hanks saying it in his Forrest Gump voice.
Ok, I have a really good one from this week. My daughter just turned 5. She is very much into pretend play especially superheroes, wrestling, basically being a strong hero type. She was swirling her blankey around and I told her, "You look just like a bull fighter". So her face lights up and she runs to the kitchen and comes back with a stack of bowls and colanders and announces herself as "the Amazing Bowl Wrestler and Fighter"...and yes, she fought the inanimate bowls. When I showed her a clip of a bull fighter, she was not impressed and said that hers was better. Yes, yes it was!

That's hysterical! I love that song!

When I was little and singing the song "Amazing Grace", my mom told me that I used to sing "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved Donna Wretch like me". I wonder when I learned the right words!

What a cute story, H.!

I've got a grown-up one. I gave my husb a gift a few years ago, a pair of kazoos with which we can perform goofy duets. It's one of our bonding behaviors.

Now, first you should know that my husband is a born minister/guru/spiritual teacher type, and he's always questing toward deeper spirituality. Meditation looms large in recent years.

So I put a tag on the gift that said "think silliness!!!" He looked at that and exclaimed, "Think stillness! How wonderful!"

Said his patient wife, "No, not stillness. Read it again!"

So he looked again, and exclaimed, "Oh, think silence! That's great!"

(My writing was clear. He did finally read it right.)

My kids have always been notorious for flubbing music lyrics. My favorite, though, was hearing my 5 year old son singing along with Eddie Money's Two Tickets to Paradise. I busted up laughing when I realized he was saying "Two chickens with parrot's eyes"! LOL

I have had a few kids at school tattling on another student because the other student said the "s" word. What "s" word? The "s" word from Gangnam Style. Since when did "sexy" become a bad word??? So I explain that "sexy" is a nice word...

Thanks everyone for your funny stories, and thanks, H., for the question!!!!

I always love when little kids get their own version of lyrics.

It's also pretty funny when they get the lyrics correct.
My son picked up my habit of singing in the shower.
Imagine a 3 year old belting this out...Word for word.

This past Father's Day, I got my ex husband a card. He gets quite impatient in traffic and I found a card with a little girl on the front in one of those little Flintstone looking cars. She's screaming her head off.
The front of the card says, "Pick a lane, A-Hole!!"
On the inside it says, "Do you wonder if your kids listen to you? Yes...yes they do".

Our 17 year old son and I went to his house for dinner on Father's Day and I gave him the card.
He looked at the front and read out loud..."Pick a lane, a hole......."
I said, "It's pick a lane, A-HOLE!! It's not like pick a lane, pick a hole!"

Our son just about peed himself laughing and my ex got so embarrassed.
He felt it wasn't "proper" of me to make such a racey joke in front of our kid, but hey...HE'S the one who read it that way.

I can totally identify with Peg's story. OMG.

My ex husband doesn't have the greatest sense of humor which is part of why we're not married anymore. Fortunately, my son takes after me.

Best wishes to all of you, and again, thanks for sharing.

Fun question!

My brother was notorious for crossing up lyrics when he was a child. My personal favorite: There is a line in the hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers" that goes, "Christ the royal master leads against the foe..." My brother's interpretation went like this: "Christ the royal master leans against the phone..."
