JFF: Does Your Man Wear Cologne?

Hi all - I would like to buy my hubby a new cologne for Valentine's Day...he has been wearing POLO for as long as I can remember, and I just wanted to change it up a bit. Do you have any suggestions? I'm open to anything except Aramis, which was the only after- shave my Dad ever wore, so there is too strong an association for me with that particular scent. Also, just wondering, if your man wears cologne, is it always the same one, like a signature scent, or does he switch off among a few different ones? Thanks for your replies!

What can I do next?

Rarely, only because usually he smells like gasoline, brake dust and other mechanic like stuff. BUT when we go out and he remembers to put it on...mmm mmmm mmmmm, I love it. He usually wears polo too, but I also got him obsession by calvin klein, hugo, and adidas.

yes - hubby wears cologne, especially when he works (Sales Rep). Right now he is wearing Joop and I really like it. He also had a Drakkar? that I liked.

My husband used to wear colonge but no longer does but my teenage son does. I love it and wish my husband would again! Here is a great suggestion becuase picking out a cologne is such a personal descion. If you have a Sephora near you they have the great Men's Cologne sample kit. You get 10 brand name sample cologne's. The cost is $50.00 - you have the opportunity to sample all the cologne's and in the box is a certificate for one bottle of any of the samples in the box. My son decided on GIO for Men by Armani. He went back with the certificate and they gave him a bottle of colonge priced at $54.00. So - it's a great way to sample at a pretty good value. When he ran low on the bottle that he got with the kit he tried all the samples again and bought GIO again and Ralph Lauren Blue. I feel like we really got our $$ worth!

Mine wears Old Spice and it's the only kind he likes. I would not dream of asking him to wear something different.

My husband loves cologne and I got burberry for him and he likes it. One suggestions would be to get him several small bottles of different scents. Get a scent that you like not what you think he will like :)

Sam's club and Nordstrom Rack are two great places to buy cologne.

My husband LOVES going cologne shopping. Before my son was born he'd take off and spend hours sniffing away and come hoome with twenty of those scent strips.

I wear ONE scent and he easily has 5-7 different ones. Not even exactly sure what he has but I know Coolwater and Joop are a couple in his stash. Love a man that knows how to pick out a nice cologne!

My hubby wears Adidas (cheap stuff) as well as Drakkar, Cool Water, Ck One - and funny enough he bought me a cologne - Givinchi - which he thought was a woman's cologne because one of his friends' girlfriend was wearing it - turned out she liked the scent - she was wearing it!...lol.. but it DOES smell good enough for a woman to wear!

My husband doesn't wear cologne, ever. He's never liked it. He'd probably also like it if I didn't wear perfume, but we've been married 20 years and he's never going to get his way on that one. I do like some men's colognes, as long as the wearer is subtle with it. I like Halston, Cool Water and Karl Lagerfeld.

my hubby (and me too) likes Kenneth Cole - Black. He also likes Armani - Code. One that he wears that I am not crazy about is Dolce and Gabbana (I don't know what name though) it reminds me of pepper lol!

Man I wouldn't know what Colognes are even out there these days, besides the old staples.
Growing up my dad had a glass try full of colognes. He wore them every day. I also remember going to Marshall Fields, Nordstrom etc with my mom to buy him cologne & the gift bags that always came with them. lol

I think because of that, *i do not have a relationship with my dad, he was abusive* I can't stand cologne now.
It bugs me to smell it.
Thankfully my hubby doesn't like it either lol

Oh, yes, my husband wears cologne and always has. We've been married for 18 years & I love the fact that he wears it! He does like to change things up some, but tends to stick to a few that he likes...CK Eternity, CK Summer, YSL L'Homme, and RL Safari. Another thing he always does is get the deoderant in the same scent. Cost increase, yes, but no scent clash!

My DH wears cologne whenever he leaves the house - he pretty much wears Curve, and will get more when it runs out (or I get for him for Xmas, b-day, or Father's Day). I have gotten him some others just to switch it up, and he's liked them, but he still seems to prefer Curve and always sticks with it.

Oh Yeah, he wears HUGO ~ I LOVE it. We picked it out together many years ago when we were just dating. I don't think my husband would be too excited about me picking him out a new scent on my own. All men are different, and your husband may not care, but you might want to consider that before you make a decision. My husband only wears HUGO......

My husband does not wear cologne. His natural smell is wonderful and I love it. He got some aftershave from my mom one year for Christmas, but I asked him to stop wearing it. I think it was Black Suede from Avon. Smelled nice, but I preferred he keep in the in bottle. To me, there is no bigger turn-off than a man that has taken a bath in cologne. Unfortunately, most men don't know how to do moderation. :(

My husband wears Cartier...I have tried in the past to get him different scents...all unsuccessfully!! Either I wind up choking on it, or he winds up choking on it, LOL. So he pretty much sticks to just that one, which I don't mind, it's a mild, clean scent, one I have grown to associate with him. Another good idea for Valentines day is to make up alittle basket of accessories. Like men's shampoo, body wash, deodorant, shaving gel with a new razor, just stuff like, I know my husband enjoys that.

My husband only wears cologne when we're going out somewhere, not every day... although I wish he would. Hm, might mention that to him :)

BUT- I dated this guy in high school (many years ago...double digits) that wore HUGO by Hugo Boss. I still think of him when I smell it, and it bugs me. I really didn't care much for him but I'll run into someone wearing that cologne and he automatically pops into my head. I like the cologne and would like to get it for my husband, but it would be too weird!

Mine doesnt wear any. I think cologne is for highschool and for the dating scene mostly. Sort of gives a guy a signature aroma that all the girls can talk about and to remind you of him when you smell it on yourself after he's gone home. Once your married he has his own scent that only YOU know and no one else does and it doesnt involve a perfume. I'd save the money on the perfume and get him something he would use that's more conventional like a new cap or hat or some comfy moccasins he can put on in the morning and still retrieve the newspaper in.
Men wearing cologne is a signal that they are out trying to get a date by the way they smell.
I'm sure this has a lot to do with my age and I do remember buying my hubby cologne now and then when we were in our 20's and probably our 30's just hoping it would help me recapture allure for him. It really didnt work, I was still too busy being a mom to turn back into that girl that was once all gaga for him. That has to come back in it's own time when the kids arent as demanding.
As for wanting him to have that nice clean smell tho, just for you of course, Old Spice has been a good long lasting stand by for many many years. That signature white bottle has been around for a long time and for good reason. You can't go wrong with Old Spice.
