what kind of doctor specializes in dealing with issues with the jaw?
About a year ago my husband started having numbness on the side of his face. Frigtened initially we spent hours in the ER to rule out an possibility of stroke. MRI and CT scan showed nothing. Since then he contiinues to have numbness.
So far he has seen an ear, nose and throat specialist, and nuerologist, and a dentist who specializes in TMJ/cosmetic denstistry. All of them have been stumped and have referred him to someone else. Are we missing the mark or are the doctors?? Is there a kind of specialist we are missing?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Give your local Orthodontist a call, if they won't help you look up the nearest school of dentistry. I would also talk to your family doctor, have your husband's blood pressure checked, I would again investigate the idea that he had a stroke.
If you aren't getting answers it doesn't mean there isn't one. If you have to get second opinions, do so! Remember that doctors are people too, they don't always know everything so be willing to keep asking the questions. Good luck! I am sorry you are going through this right now.

What about seeing a chiropractor to see if he can release a pinched nerve? Or even an accupunturist. I would have recommended a TMJ doc (prosthodontist) but you have already been there. I know the right side of my head was numb for a very long time because a nerve got pinched from the way I heald my head when anwering the phones at work. I was holding it between the jaw and my shoulder. After I stopped doing that I no longer had the issue within a few months.

Have you tried Bowenwork yet? It is a gentle therapy that stretches rolls and releases the muscles in specific locations on the body. There are frequent breaks to allow the nervous system to incorporate these moves. Why it works is that our nervous systems have "memory" on where proper alignment really is. After Bowen this memory is stimulated and the body falls back into it's natural place. Because this is a relatively "unknown" modality, I am happy to give your husband a free treatment. He should be able to tell if after the first treatment he feels better, that it will work for him or not. Look me up on the web and feel free to give me a call if he is interested. My address is www.centralcoasthomeopathy.com.
I work in Watsonville, California. If this is too far I can recommend someone closer for you.
