Does a sandwich with jam need to be kept cold? I know this is a silly question, but I am really not sure. We are taking a trip by plane and I know that cold pack are usually not allowed through security. I can bring a bag and get it filled with ice at an eatery once inside the airport, but don't want to go through the hassle if I don't need to. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses so far . . . Our flight requires us to be at the airport by 5am and we will not arive at our final destination until 3:30 pm our time, so I am trying to think of things that will last and are appropriate for my son's food allergy.

I ate peanut butter and jelly for lunch every day during grade school. It is definitely not necessary to keep it cold.

I'm so used to them that way, that I actually prefer pb&j at room temperature!

Good luck with your flight! I know how stressful it must be for you. Have a wonderful time.

It should be just fine without being cold.

See your other questions and responses about TSA. They *may* consider jam a liquid, I have heard of terrible examples. I think you should get the "OK" from the airlines with his allergies. I'm not sure how long the flight is and I'm sure you will feed him prior to arrival to the airport.

I think that the sugar content and acid content in jam make it a safe food to keep at room temperature.

Never had a pb&j keep on ice for lunch back in the day for school, I'm not dead yet.
But if your still worried get a soft sided small cooler. As long as you don't open it unnecessarily everything will stay relatively cool.

Good luck. Planes and kids can really suck sometimes.
