personally i am getting my daughter the dsi xl (there is a great bundle at walmart.com & big lots has great games for $10)...my nephew has an ipod touch & an older ds the ipod touch is okay but doesnt have as many game choices & games for younger kids plus the dsi xl is also an mp3, a camera, has a video camera mode & you can play online with friends, so for us its way better

go with whichever system provides the most gaming experience....that's where you're headed. Boys are big gamers!

I know nothing of the DXi or pocket game systems, but I have an iPod Touch which I love!!! Personally, I think he will get more use from the iTouch for many reasons.... games are MUCH cheaper (and there are always updates so they are never really 'out-of-date), it's a music player, video player (you can get movies, TV shows... whatever for it and he can watch on trips) and so much more... like a pocket computer. and the new models take video movies too (mine, alas, is not a newer one) and there are SO many neat apps he can download, some pay for and some free. And a nice thing will be when birthdays and stuff roll around, people can give him an iTunes gift card and he can get virtually anything he wants right from the Pod. Oh, and the graphics on the games are just as good as ones you would play on the TV systems. the Pod will outlast any pocket game system. Just be sure to buy a good protector because he will drop the Pod from time-to-time... I would go with a good rubber kind.

Both are great. I am getting my 6yo an Itouch b/c he has had the DSI for several years now and has outgrown it. Plus-he love his brother's. If your son has not used a Touch and isn't asking for it go with the Dsi.
